Live like every day is your last. Live Like Roo.

About us

Live Like Roo Foundation is a 501c3 organization that helps animals and their owners through a cancer diagnosis by providing emotional and financial support. Roo was rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control in April 2015. While getting a dental, we found out that he had bone cancer. We created a bucket list for him and for the next 6 months he Lived Like Roo....like there was no tomorrow. Now, we are helping animals with cancer do the same. #LiveLikeRoo

  • I love our Live Like Roo Foundation Marathon team so much. Natalia is our captain and has helped me make the best decisions for our team all the way down to what to have as grab and gos on race day! Last year, I had tears watching our team's dreams come true! It is so inspiring. Thank you Natalia for all you do to help animals with cancer and for being a friend for so many years!

Outside of education, I love few things more than running and dogs. Most years, I train for the Chicago Marathon with a close group of friends. I've also had the pleasure of being the co-captain of the team that runs for the Live Like Roo Foundation this year. Last year, there were ten of us. This year, there are 30. I never got to meet Roo, but my dog did, and I've known the founder, Sarah, since 2015. She was the person who noticed Huck at animal control and got his medical needs sponsored so that a rescue could take him in. To say I am grateful to her is an understatement. Now, the Live Like Roo Foundation provides emotional and financial support to people whose pets have cancer diagnoses. I leave the link to my fundraising page. Consider donating to this local organization, or share it with your networks and anyone interested in their cause. If nothing else, read up about Roo and let it remind you of the power one pet can have and the love they bring to our lives (and us to theirs). #livelikeroo

$5 Friday for this GOODNESS. Our friend Gina (who is also an exceptional volunteer at CACC) adopted a dog that I loved from Chicago Animal Care and Control. He was with Safe Humane Chicago and named Doodle Bug. Gina renamed him Finn. He ended up with cancer and unfortunately passed away before we were able to have his Bucket List Party. We were crushed. We decided, in his honor, to give a day out to a Chicago Animal Care and Control dog named Snoop. Snoop came to the party and captured EVERYONE's heart and had the best time. (video here: https://lnkd.in/gPVG8DrM ) The heart he captured the most was Gina's brother, who ended up ADOPTING HIM! TEARS OF JOY! Finn was at that party providing good vibes for Snoop. Snoop has a human brother and a boat. I mean does it get better than that? So, this $5 Friday is honor of Finn and in celebration of Snoop. How incredible that it all worked out like this? venmo livelikeroo zelle medical@livelikeroo.org THANK YOU

Introducing our GiveBox charity of the month for July Live Like Roo Foundation ! Live Like Roo was founded in 2016 and provides support and financial assistance to families whose pets face a cancer diagnosis through care packages, creating bucket lists, and financial support for medical bills. Since being founded, Live Like Roo has helped 20,000+ families and their pets and have awarded $2.2 million in financial grants to families in need. At The Boxery, we were able to help them out by providing the boxes they use to send out their wonderful care packages. Make sure you check out this wonderful cause!

8 years of Live Like Roo Foundation.  I hate numbers. Just ask Tiffany Fraley! I have no idea how we got here, but I am so thankful.  When I got the official 501c3 letter on this day 8 years ago, I had no idea what I was doing. I just wanted to help others faced with the worst days of their lives-a cancer diagnosis in a pet, send a few care packages and possibly fund some medical needs. Well. It has been a ride. I am SO proud of where we are today!  2016: $19,000 in grants 2023: $448,000 in grants Over 5500 care packages delivered These numbers are pretty remarkable and we cannot do it without our incredible board, staff, volunteers and most importantly, our supporters. Changing lives and providing hope is one of the best feelings in the world, but unfortunately this Foundation is steeped in sadness. We keep going because we know how important it is for others to feel a sense of love and empathy. Thank you for always being there for us. Thank you to my friends and our staff and board for being there for me during the rough days. We would not be here without all of you and it is not lost on me how important you are to our future. • "I'm speechless. This is so kind and truly means the absolute world to me. " $5 Friday to Celebrate Pierre! Though delayed, we were finally able to offer a grant thanks to our friends at MMidwest FurFest "I adopted Pierre when he was 3 years old from a very abusive living situation. Since then, we have been through it all together. He has moved cities with me, was my study buddy through the many sleepless nights of medical school, travel buddy, and the best friend to come home to at the end of the day. When I found out that Pierre had thyroid cancer, it was absolutely devastating. Surgery was recommended in order to save Pierre's life. Pierre had his surgery in June of 2023 and, thankfully, the thyroid cancer was removed. Since then, he has been doing great and back to his loving/stubborn/quirky/ playful self! We will continue to monitor his thyroid function to make sure we are on the right track. Live like Roo has made it possible to afford the life saving surgery to keep my very best friend around and I could not be more grateful!" -Kourtney venmo livelikeroo livelikeroo.org THANK YOU
