The world recently became acquainted with the chimp group that lives outside of guest view, thanks to The New York Times. We couldn't be more grateful for the support. Sharing Eli and Susie's story, from being forced to perform to learning to be chimps with the help of Lincoln Park Zoo's expert staff, is an amazing way to support these animals. It helps ensure that people understand the perils of privately-owned primates. When you donate to Lincoln Park Zoo, you are helping support Eli, Susie, Zachary, Patrick, Magadi, and all of the other animals you love. You're helping keep the zoo free and open, and you're supporting care, conservation, and education work in Chicago and around the world. A $5 gift to the zoo makes a world of difference. lpzoo.org/donate

Flying through O'Hare? Check out our tree! Thanks to the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) - O'Hare & Midway International Airports for inviting us to spread the cheer this holiday season. This tree is inspired by the zoo’s tagline, For Wildlife. For All. It features playful wooden animals that remind us of the planet’s vast biodiversity (and are made from Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood sources!), and a colorful pompom garland that represents the unique people and cultures that share it. Paper honeycomb ornaments give a subtle nod to bees which are important pollinators and, like us, frequent fliers! Members of the social committee and HR team participated in the tree decoration, including: Debbie Klisurich, Lauren Terwilliger-Cashman, Emily Stroebel, Latrice Garth, Alexander Reyes, Elio Benitez, MHRM and Genevieve Gonnigan.

Check out the story behind Emily Anthes' The New York Times story highlighting Eli and Susie's journey. This powerful piece brings readers behind the scenes and digs in to the incredible care Lincoln Park Zoo teams provide to the chimps visitors to the zoo don't see. https://lnkd.in/gZkzES2e

This Giving Tuesday, Lincoln Park Zoo is grateful for you - our generous supporter community - who allow us to remain the only privately-funded, free zoo in the USA. Your generosity fuels our vital work in animal care and welfare, conservation and science, and community engagement. Please consider a contribution to your free zoo this holiday season! https://lnkd.in/gtGvFbdS 📸 Dianne Mohr

Lincoln Park Zoo’s Learning Department was thrilled to participate in the International Zoo Educators exchange program to host Kim Wong, an educator from Ocean Park in Hong Kong. Our team has never visited Ocean Park, so Kim’s visit was a great way to gain insight into her institution and programs. During her visit, Kim presented about her work and shadowed Lincoln Park Zoo programs for learners of all ages. We found similarities between our educational strategies: we share goals to amplify youth voices and take action on behalf of threatened species. Our visitor also inspired us to reflect on cultural differences, expanding our worldview. Wherever we work, we all try to develop our students into compassionate global citizens who show empathy for wildlife, from pandas to penguins!

Some work achievements everyone can understand--a promotion, a big grant, an award. Others are a little more specific to your individual field. Well, it took us 14 years, but my team has finally detected otters in Chicagoland (full disclosure, they've been seen by others earlier). I knew it would happen eventually! Didn't think it'd take over a decade... Maybe in ten more years, a bobcat? https://lnkd.in/ge--VBsX
