President & Chief Executive Officer, Levi Strauss & Co.

Every month, I host an employee town hall. We call it “Ask Michelle Anything,” and we usually hold it at our global headquarters at Levi’s Plaza. But last week, for the first time, we broadcast from one of our stores – our Market Street store in San Francisco – because we wanted to emphasize how critical our retail stores and teams are to everything we do.      For that same reason, I visit our stores every chance I get. Yes, it’s the job, but it’s more than that. I’m a die-hard retailer. I love being in stores and connecting with our people, which I was most recently able to do in Chicago right before Thanksgiving and in Santa Clara, at our Valley Fair store and our Great Mall outlet, last week.     Our stores and the people who staff them are so important to our business and our efforts to become a best-in-class omnichannel retailer. In fact, I believe that all of us at our corporate offices work in service to our retail teams, because they stay closest to our fans, hearing what people want, seeing what works on the floor, giving us feedback we can use to set LS&Co. up for long-term success. In many ways, our job is to make their lives easier so they can focus on assisting and delighting everyone who comes through our doors.     Special thanks to Market Street store manager Randy Marasigan and his team, who opened the store early for us so we could host the town hall and who have the place in fantastic shape for the holidays. They, like our retail teams around the world, are doing an incredible job bringing the DTC-first mindset to life, showing how strong our brand is and spotlighting products – tops, bottoms, truckers, puffers, dresses and more – that embody what denim lifestyle is all about. You’re making us all proud!

When a plush yellow puppet made its debut as the main character in a series of Levi’s® ads in the late 1990s, few could have anticipated the reaction. Today, 25 years after Flat Eric’s first appearance, LS&Co. Historian Tracey Panek walks us through how a puppet secured a spot at the center of culture and quickly became a Levi’s® classic. Learn more ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/g-yCN2w5

  • At LS&Co., we are dedicated to equipping our employees with the tools and resources they need to navigate change, embrace transitions and perform at their best. One of the ways we do that is by creating spaces where meaningful connections can thrive. This includes creating moments like Seen & Heard, our annual employee event celebrating connection, courage and belonging in the workplace.   Together, we're building a culture that celebrates courage, fosters belonging and supports every employee in reaching their full potential.    A big thank you to everyone who participated in Seen & Heard 2024!   #LifeatLevi

One of the reasons Levi’s® is such a powerful brand is its perpetual place at the center of culture. That’s why teams are constantly keeping the pulse on key cultural moments in regions around the world so that we’re reaching our consumers at the moments most important to them. • Today we're honoring San Francisco icon Peggy Caserta, who passed away last month at the age of 84. Peggy, whose Haight Street store ushered in a hippie style sensation, partnered with LS&Co. in the late 1960s to help fast-track the Bell Bottoms trend. Read what LS&Co. Historian Tracey Panek shared below, and learn more about Peggy at https://lnkd.in/gz6WNrth

Historian at Levi Strauss & Co.

Saddened at the passing of my dear friend, Peggy Caserta, whose San Francisco Haight-Ashbury store, Mnasidika, was at the heart of the counterculture movement in the late 1960s. Peggy’s customers ranged from Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to her best friend, Janis Joplin. Peggy partnered with Levi Strauss & Co. in 1968 to create a new hippie trend, flared jeans, that sold like hotcakes in her store. It paved the way for the launch of Levi’s® Bell Bottoms Lot 646 jeans the following year in 1969. I was fortunate to interview Peggy at our headquarters in 2019 where she shared her Levi’s story. Peggy’s humor, down-to-earth storytelling, Southern drawl and positive energy were her best traits. As a friend noted, “A little color left the world at her passing.” Hugs to you in heaven Peggy. https://lnkd.in/eNcG-whF
