At Legacy Community Health there are so many people behind the scenes who are crucial to our mission: to connect our communities to care for- every day and in every way. We are grateful this season for all those men and women who run our Operating and Endowment Boards. Thank you for your service to our patient community!
I’M THINKING… about how critical strong, engaged boards are to the success of any nonprofit organization. Legacy Community Health is lucky to have incredible leaders guiding us forward. Last night, we celebrated the season with Legacy's Operating Board chair Ryan Martin, Endowment Board Chair Mike Holloman, and members of both boards. Strong boards aren't just partners - they're changemakers. To our board chairs and members: thank you for your leadership and dedication. You inspire us every day.

While many believe the HIV epidemic is over, the reality is different: an estimated 28,000 Houstonians live with HIV, and 7-12 Texans are newly diagnosed every day. At Legacy, HIV care is part of our foundation. Created in 1978 to fight a then-unknown disease, we remain one of Houston's most trusted sources for prevention, testing, and care. Hear from Dr. Natalie Vanek, Clinic Medical Director and recipient of OutSmart's Gayest & Greatest Award, as she shares Legacy’s origin story, and from Jill Jahns, VP of Health Navigation, on our continued work to connect communities to HIV care and prevention. This month, we honor those we’ve lost to HIV—and reaffirm our commitment to ending it for good. Together, we can make HIV history.

Legacy's Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services Neha Agrawal recently joined KPRC’s Haley Hernandez to discuss the growing popularity of a subset of retail pharmacies known as compound pharmacie. The key to their assess is their ability to produce their own versions of GLP-1 weight loss medications—and what patients should consider before choosing these alternatives. At Legacy, our approach is different. We provide a holistic pharmacy concierge service, offering medical oversight, personalized guidance on side effects, and nutritional support to help protect against muscle loss and brittle bones—ensuring patient safety and well-being come first. At Legacy, we connect our communities to health, every day and in every way. #HealthEquity #PharmacyCare #GLP1 #LegacyCommunityHealth

At Legacy, the majority of our patients—and many of our colleagues—are Hispanic, reflecting the diversity of the communities we are committed to serving. We are especially proud to have a seat on the Mayor's Hispanic Council. Our committee member and VP for Major Gifts and Planned Giving, Tim Martinez, recently co-chaired the Hispanic Heritage Awards. With so many accomplished Hispanic Houstonians, selecting just one honoree is always a challenge!
