Our co-founder and CEO, Rob LaHayne, shared some thoughts on how advancements in drug development - specifically specialty drugs - has and will continue to impact employers. Plus a few suggestions on how self-insured employers can mitigate and future-proof their specialty drug plans.
"Progress is priceless" but also it costs a lot... In 1990, there were 10 specialty drugs on the market. Today there are over 400. In the next 5 years, specialty drugs are expected to make up 67% of new drug launches. This means huge advancements in outcomes for patients with chronic conditions, rare diseases, and cancer, but it also means employers are going to be faced with many more cost-related challenges caused by the increased volume of covered plan members on specialty drugs. Leap Health works with self-funded employers to future proof their specialty drug strategy, all while improving the patient experience.
