About us
Law Forward promotes a progressive vision. We exist to advance the law—to create forward progress, step by step. Through impact litigation, administrative process and public education, we are protecting Wisconsin’s fundamental democratic principles and reviving Wisconsin’s traditional commitment to clean and open government. We develop cases, identifying opportunities to use litigation to transform the law in significant ways. Law Forward works to ensure that state agencies regulate appropriately and fulfill their mandates. Our work engages policymakers, the legal community, and citizens on legal issues, expanding both opportunities and demand for progressive change. Visit our website to support our mission and to learn more about our recent efforts surrounding fraudulent electors, voting rights, and fair legislative districts.

None of the previous Act 10 lawsuits articulated the state constitutional theory raised in our lawsuit. Judge Frost reviewed all of the prior litigation and determined that it does not block the current case from moving forward. https://lnkd.in/gjq4ygA5

Today, at noon, the Presidential Electors for the State of Wisconsin met in the Joint Finance Committee Room of the capitol, where they cast their votes for President and Vice President of the United States. Donald Trump and JD Vance won Wisconsin. In what should be a routine procedure, the GOP electors cast their votes for Trump and Vance. But four years ago, on Dec. 14, 2020, the meeting of the electors to cast ballots was anything but routine. Fake electors - led by James Troupis and Ken Chesebro - met, illegally claiming to be the real Wisconsin electors. On Dec. 14, 2020, the fake electors met in secret, submitting fake votes that were subsequently used to try and overturn the election. We detailed what happened in this fake electors scheme - which started in Wisconsin and spread to other states - in a timeline: https://lnkd.in/gbaYXr75 Today, both Troupis and Chesebro face 11 felony charges - including forgery - for their actions in the fake elector scheme, and we've filed an OLR grievance against Troupis. https://lnkd.in/gjPMWfY6 The 10 fake electors settled our civil lawsuit last December, allowing the publication of hundreds of pages of discovery materials shedding like on what transpired in Wisconsin. https://lnkd.in/gChTA7U2 Three months later, Troupis and Chesebro followed suit. https://lnkd.in/e_YrC5-Y But we must continue to seek accountability for those who attempted to subvert the will of the voters in Wisconsin and other states, to ensure this never happens again. Troupis was the quarterback in a calculated scheme to overturn a presidential election—an extraordinary abuse of legal expertise aimed at undermining our democracy. Troupis needs to be investigated for his conduct devising, implementing, and defending the fake electors scheme. He violated the Wisconsin Supreme Court Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys by advancing falsehoods, enabling fraud, and undermining the rule of law. Our democracy depends on attorneys adhering to their ethical obligations, and this grievance seeks to hold Troupis accountable and ensure that such abuses of the legal profession are never repeated.

Every public sector union that endorsed Scott Walker's run for governor was categorized as a public safety union (whether the workers were engaged in public safety or not), and thus protected under Act 10, while every public sector union that did not endorse Scott Walker's run for governor was categorized as a general employee union, whose rights were terminated. Previous legal challenges focused primarily on the 14th Amendment - we argued that Act 10 is a violation of the equal protection guarantee in our state constitution, and the court agreed with us.

"The documents that Troupis and Chesebro instructed the Republican Party of Wisconsin to submit say that these are the electoral votes from the State of Wisconsin. They were not - plain and simple." - Scott Thompson, Staff Counsel https://lnkd.in/gs335nMJ

Troupis’s conduct undermined faith in our democratic processes, contributed to a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol, and reverberates to this day in ongoing election denialism in Wisconsin. https://lnkd.in/eAQaQHDB
