This fall the Latino Community Foundation held our Rest is Power Sabbatical Retreat in Pescadero! This retreat marked the culmination of our Rest is Power sabbatical program that granted 8 powerful leaders a sabbatical. Many of these leaders have been working for decades, some even serving as funders of the organizations they support. Throughout their careers, they have selflessly prioritized the needs of their communities, often at the expense of their own well-being. This retreat also provided a much-needed opportunity to reinforce the valuable lessons learned, and to remind everyone that self-care is essential to sustainable leadership. One of the greatest opportunities provided by the retreat was the chance for participants to connect on a deeper level. As many leaders shared similar experiences, it fostered a strong sense of unity, reminding everyone that they were not alone in their struggles and challenges. LCF is proud that our program provided our leaders with clarity, connection, a fresh perspective, and sustained energy. Join us in welcoming back our incredible leaders! One of our favorite convenings of 2024 was PoderFest, hosted at Plaza de la Raza Cultural Center for Arts and Education! PoderFest was a celebration of art, culture, and community and brought our 28 PoderArte partners together, as well as our Latino Giving Circle Network, to build community and strengthen our relationships. As we reflect on the magic that was PoderFest, we see the connections that were created by providing our LGCN, the largest network of Latino philanthropists, and our PoderArte partners the opportunity to dream and build civic and economic power. 🎥 Don’t miss the magic! The future of “Lithium Valley” is not its lithium, but its people! 👨👨👧 LCF is proud to stand with our incredible partners Imperial Valley Equity & Justice Coalition & Comite Civico Del Valle, Inc., and applauds their unwavering support of good jobs, environmental protections, and meaningful community investments. Their latest collaboration – Valle Unido Por Beneficios Comunitarios – illustrates their continued leadership in the fight for equity and justice in Imperial County’s emerging lithium sector. The Latino Community Foundation echoes the call for transparency, enforceable commitments, and public-private partnerships that prioritize Imperial Valley residents' health and prosperity – not just corporate profits. The Latino Community Foundation was honored to be spotlighted at yesterday's 4th Annual Aspen Institute Latinos and Society Program’s Advancing Economic Mobility Summit in New York! Latino small businesses are responsible for 36% of new businesses with a significant concentration in California, Florida, and Texas. Our CEO, Julián Castro, underscored the importance of LCF’s strategies, from creating access to capital, to focusing on firms and industries that often overlook our Latino businesses. Gracias to the Latinos & Society for the invitation and partnership! Thank you McKinsey & Company for highlighting the power of our Latino small businesses through critical panel discussions, speakers, and programming. Our Latino communities are leading an economic renaissance. Together, we are creating a future where Latino families thrive, businesses flourish, and communities prosper. ¡Adelante!
