The Iota Theta chapter's annual Cream of the Crop philanthropy event occurred this past month. With the help of the sororities of Arkansas State University, we were able to raise over 26,000 pounds of food and $2,000 for the A-State Food Pantry and NEA Foodbank! Big thank you to High Theta, Landon Wallace, for spearheading this event, to Brock Ballard for hosting, and the sororities for working hard to raise food and funds! We are grateful for the opportunity to work together to give back to our community.

As the semester begins to get into full swing, we take a moment to reflect on what a few of our engineering students were able to accomplish this summer. Josh Olegario, Mechanical Engineering student, worked as an intern for the Resource Adequacy team at Southwest Power Pool in Little Rock, AR, primarily working on with the NERC Probabilistic Assessment. Josh also has experience as a previous Intern for Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation and has served as our chapter's secretary since this past November. Jackson Galloway, Electrical Engineering student, worked as a Controls Engineering Intern at CertainTeed in Little Rock, AR. Jackson was able to design and improve Human Machine Interfaces and gain experience working with Programmable Logic Controllers. Jackson also has experience as a previous Intern for Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation and serves as our chapter's treasurer and Senator on the Student Government Association representing the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Ethan Cain, Mechanical Engineering student, worked as a Power Generation Consulting Intern at 1898 & Co., part of Burns & McDonnell, in Kansas City, MO. Ethan was able to gain experience in assisting utilities and cooperatives in planning new natural gas generation to improve reliability of the power grid during a crucial time of transition towards renewable generation. Ethan also has experience as an Intern with Bernhard and serves as Senator on the Student Government Association representing the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Today is my last day as the Transformation and Integration IT Intern for Simmons Bank. It has been a great experience, and I have gained valuable insights in the banking and IT world. I want to thank Dax Chance for being a wonderful mentor throughout the summer. I also want to give a shoutout to Cynthia Bogard for being an outstanding Simmons Sidekick. I am thankful for the opportunity to code in C#, execute UAT testing scripts and work with MS Azure DevOps. Thanks to everyone at Simmons for making this an amazing summer!

This past week, some of our officers had the opportunity to attend the 60th Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. General Assembly. Our High Alpha, Phillip Stanley, and High Phi, Mason Roland were able to be a part of the international ritual team, and our High Tau, Jackson Galloway, and High Gamma, Josh Olegario had the opportunity to attend the Stead Leadership Seminar. Josh was also able to vote on legislation as a representative of the Iota Theta Chapter. Love to see our brothers representing our chapter well and networking with those from other chapters!

Congratulations, Brother Josh Olegario! This is Josh’s second summer internship after completing one with Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation. Josh is a senior Mechanical Engineering major currently serving as chapter Secretary. With this position, he has played a critical role to streamline chapter coordination and event-planning with the integration of Flare which allows officers to smoothly take attendance, plan events, and communicate with the chapter in one space. Also a member of A-State’s Human Powered Vehicle Competition team, Josh is a great example of a brother who is active on campus and with studies but always makes sure to dedicate time and effort to our chapter.
I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Engineering Intern at Southwest Power Pool!
