We are pleased to inform you of the recent circular issued by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) regarding the Establishment of Single Family Offices in Malta. 🌐🤝 This development marks a significant evolution in Malta’s regulatory landscape, as the MFSA introduces a streamlined framework for establishing Single Family Office (SFO) structures. The updated framework includes new exemptions for fund managers and enhanced provisions for family trusts, with a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering regulations. Notably, the circular allows a Notified Professional Investor Fund (NPIF) established to exclusively manage the investments of a Single Family Office, to be managed, amongst others, by a Malta-based manager exempt from the need for an investment services license under Regulations 3(1)(f) and 3(1)(t) of S.L. 370.02 – the Investment Services Act (Exemption) Regulations. 🔍📝 These updates are expected to significantly enhance Malta’s appeal as a jurisdiction for high-net-worth families seeking to establish their investment vehicles. Malta’s robust regulatory ecosystem, coupled with its EU membership, established financial services sector and favourable tax regime, makes it an ideal location for Single Family Offices looking for a stable EU base for their investments.
