Kiva is on a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.

About us

Kiva (www.kiva.org) expands financial access to help underserved communities thrive. An international non-profit, we serve the financially excluded, especially underbanked women, refugees and communities impacted by forced displacement, climate-vulnerable people and systemically marginalized communities in the United States. By connecting people through crowdfunded loans, Kiva puts the power of financial inclusion in all our hands. Since 2005, the Kiva community has raised over $2 billion in loans, reaching over 5 million people in 84 countries. Kiva’s team is made up of 100+ employees and 450+ volunteers across the world, with offices in San Francisco, Nairobi, Bangkok, and Bogotá.

On the last day of the year, we’re grateful for some major wins, like Kiva winning a Gold medal from The Anthem Awards for our work with UGG! Kiva and UGG teamed up for #InternationalWomensDay2024 to celebrate women entrepreneurs globally. Using Kiva's Impact Dashboard and UGG's reach, the story of an entrepreneur named Amanda was amplified, highlighting the power of a zero-interest loan. Amanda's loan was later fully funded when UGG pledged $20 from each Scrunchita slide sale to women entrepreneurs. The partnership's results are immense — in one year, it helped 2,400 women around the world grow their businesses with $62,720 in capital! Kiva's Tess Murphy has a call-to-action for using your customer base to support underserved entrepreneurs worldwide:

Kiva won a Gold medal from The Anthem Awards for our work with toty! Kiva teamed up with toty, Sophia Vergara's beauty line, to celebrate both #GivingTuesday2023 and #InternationalWomensDay2024. Together, we created unique content that enabled consumers to learn about women's financial barriers, take action, and make a difference. Using Kiva's impact dashboard, toty's audience directed $25 loan credits to Latina entrepreneurs, helping women in retail, conflict zones, agriculture, and education. The joint initiative was a success, driving 10k+ new visitors to Kiva.org and directing $30,000 in loans! Kiva's Anna Titulaer has a call-to-action for brands that want to inspire change:

Imagine starting with just $125 and a bold vision to "change the world." That’s exactly what Dave Smith, a middle school teacher in Pennsylvania, did. Over the past 15 years, his students and community have lent over $1 million through Kiva to entrepreneurs in 77+ countries. 💡 In the latest edition of Rooted in Impact, Kiva's CEO, Vishal Ghotge, share Dave’s remarkable story and the lessons he used to help students overcome apathy and teach empathy, civic responsibility, and hope—transforming his classroom into a global force for good. This is a story of how small actions, like a $25 loan, can inspire massive ripple effects. It’s also a reminder of the power of education and collective action to create lasting change. ✨ Join us in celebrating the educators, students, and Kiva lenders who prove that change starts with each of us. 📖 Read the full article and subscribe for more stories of impact from Vishal in 2025. #CollectiveAction #FinancialInclusion #SocialImpact #overcomeapathy #CEO
