  • This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re proud to highlight David Babcock, a Navy veteran whose expertise in mechanical systems has set him on the path to becoming a Master Technician. During his service in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist’s Mate Second Class (MM2), David specialized in diesel generators, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic systems. This hands-on experience provided him with a strong foundation for his transition into the civilian workforce. David’s extensive background in troubleshooting complex machinery and systems has honed his mechanical expertise and problem-solving skills—qualities he now applies at Kings Kia. Beyond his technical work, David has a passion for creating stained glass, showcasing his creativity and attention to detail in a more artistic realm. However, his primary focus remains on achieving his goal of becoming a Master Technician, a journey that his apprenticeship program is actively supporting. Through the program, David is building on his military experience while acquiring the industry-specific skills needed to excel in automotive technology. His story exemplifies how veterans can leverage their military training to forge successful careers in new industries. This National Apprenticeship Week, we celebrate David’s accomplishments and the invaluable skills he brings to both the apprenticeship program and the automotive industry.

  • A word from our Senior Technical Instructor, Mark S.... As a senior instructor for the Kia Veterans Technician Apprenticeship Program (VTAP) in Kennesaw, I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredible team and supporting transitioning veterans for the past year. Coming from a family deeply rooted in military service—my father, an Air Force Vietnam-era pilot; my brother, an Air Force S.P. during the Cold War; and my cousin, a Marine who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom—this work holds a special place in my heart. Kia VTAP stands apart in its approach to preparing veterans for meaningful careers in automotive technology. In just four weeks, we bridge the gap between military service and the civilian workforce, delivering advanced training in both internal combustion and electric vehicle technology. This program is more than technical skill-building; it’s about providing a safe harbor for veterans, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry. Unlike other initiatives I’ve been a part of, Kia VTAP delivers unmatched depth and personalized mentorship. It’s not just about teaching skills—it’s about fostering long-term success by recognizing the drive, determination, and unique abilities veterans bring to the repair shop. I’m proud to contribute to a program that empowers our service members to transition with purpose and pursue lasting careers in automotive service. Here’s to many more successful transitions and another year of making a difference!

  • A word from our Senior Technical Trainer, Rick Grossert... "I wanted to take a moment to share the profound joy and fulfillment I’ve found in teaching automotive skills to veterans. Every day in this role brings a unique sense of purpose as I witness the transformative power of hands-on learning and the unwavering dedication veterans bring to the Kia apprentice program. Teaching veterans is especially rewarding because of the respect they show for their new career paths with Kia service. Many bring a natural inclination for teamwork, a strong work ethic, and an eye for detail—skills honed during their military service. They tackle the challenges of working in a Kia dealership with determination, taking pride in learning new techniques, from diagnosing electric vehicles to mastering intricate tasks. Every bolt tightened or circuit diagnosed holds significance. These veterans are not just learning new skills—they’re building something meaningful, applying their expertise in fresh ways, and regaining a sense of purpose in civilian life. One of the most fulfilling parts of being an instructor is witnessing veterans connect over shared experiences. They support each other’s learning journeys, often taking time to assist a fellow student in understanding complex concepts. Through teaching the Kia veterans’ automotive curriculum, I have the privilege of helping them transition to meaningful, high-paying careers in a field that’s in high demand. Seeing their success—knowing they’re gaining not just technical knowledge but also confidence and pride—is beyond measure. For many, the skills learned in the Kia apprentice program open doors to new opportunities. Their dedication is a daily inspiration, making every moment in the Kia training center more than just instruction—it’s an honor and a privilege."
