The end of the year marks cultural and religious holidays, but recognizing them at work does not need to add to the season's stress. It is impossible to recognize every person's individual tradition, but creating space for people to opt into sharing can help build community at work. Here are some tips to make it more joyful. #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #DEI #Holidays #Culture

2024 was filled with pushback against DEI. While there is no denying the impact of anti-diversity activism (43% of leaders across industries said it impacted their efforts), an end-of-year report from Paradigm shows the narratives are not all doom and gloom. 💡 The work continues regardless of the narrative. There was a shift from using terms like DEI and diversity, but an increase in the term 'belonging.' Those of us who have been in work for a long time actually see this as an opportunity. Simply focusing on demographics will not create long-term change. A focus on inclusion and belonging with a commitment to tying it to company values will create better workplaces. 💡There was a 12-point increase compared to 2023 in the number of companies with a DEI budget. 66% of companies have a DEI budget. People are investing and putting their money where their mouth is. 💡 Demographic goals are being targeted. 2023 already saw a decrease in the number of organizations reporting race/ethnicity goals, and 2024 targeted gender diversity goals. 💡 More and more organizations are partnering with other organizations focused on DEI. 63% of companies have partnerships with organizations focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (e.g., organizations supporting women, underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, and the LGBTQ+ community), compared to 54% in 2023. This is a great solution for organizations who are considering alternatives or facing internal backlash against DEI. https://lnkd.in/gEz5pM6c

Caitlin Clark serves as an example of leadership to everyone. Not just because the Time's Athlete of the Year can hit a three or because she helped drive WBNA attendance up 48%. But because she is humble enough to come out and acknowledge that she stands on the shoulders of those who came before her. Caitlin Clark expertly embodied how white women can be allies by recognizing their privilege and using it to advocate for investment in underrepresented communities because, as she says, "the more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing." Caitlin is not "apologizing for being white" or undermining her own success. People who are angry she "bent the woke knee" or "is a bitter woman" are just looking for someone to direct their ire at. Caitlin is showing how we can humbly and, with grace, acknowledge the team around us. What makes Caitlin Clark great is that she sees how to make an assist on and off the court. “I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege. A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them. The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that." #wnba #privilege #caitlinclark #equity
Life and Career Coach ◆ Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, Accessibility (DEIBA) Practitioner ◆ Talent Management Leader
Thoughts and prayers to all the White people choking on their Wheaties because of this statement... DIRECT QUOTE FROM CAITLIN: “I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege,” Clark told Time. “A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them.” “The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that. The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing.” As a Black woman in DEI, I have found that no other word draws more ire and discomfort than the word PRIVILEGE. I could probably even get away with calling someone a liar, a thief or a dirty-dog-malevolent-superb*tch... Because if I say those things, they'd at least ask, "Tasha, why would you say that?" But the moment you insinuate that life has been a little bit (or even a lotta bit) easier for someone because society is designed to cater to their race, gender, thinking process, sexual orientation, religion.... All Hell breaks loose. And you want to know why that is? Because we don't Google things we don't understand. So I'm going to give everyone 5 easy steps towards understanding privilege in order to have more harmonious conversations around race and societal exclusion. The biggest risk is that your pointy finger MIGHT catch a cramp: 👉🏾 Google "privilege" 👉🏾 Google "privilege" 👉🏾 Google "privilege" 👉🏾 Google "privilege" 👉🏾 Google "privilege" Now for those that simply cannot Google (God forbid), I asked my best friend Chatty (ChatGPT), "Chatty, what IS privilege?" And this is what Chatty said: 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣 Privilege refers to UNEARNED advantages or benefits that individuals or groups have due to their societal position, identity, or circumstances. These advantages often stem from systemic inequalities and can manifest in various forms, including social, economic, racial, gender-based, or cultural privileges. For example: • Social privilege might include access to better education, healthcare, or housing based on socioeconomic status. • Racial privilege might involve being part of a majority race that faces less discrimination in legal or social systems. • Gender privilege might reflect the societal benefits typically associated with certain genders, like male privilege in patriarchal societies. Privilege does NOT mean an absence of hardship... (Read that TWICE) ...but rather that certain aspects of a person’s identity do NOT contribute to the obstacles they face. Recognizing privilege is key to addressing systemic inequalities and fostering equity. As a bonus assignment, now explain "privilege" back to me in your own words in the comments or feel free to DM me. Photo 📸 Credit: Deadline

Our approach has a track record of proven results, helping organizations not just meet but exceed their equity and inclusion goals. Your doctor wouldn’t prescribe you treatment without first thoroughly assessing the present pain or injury, and Justice Informed doesn’t offer learning and development services without first developing a strong grasp on how the content of a session will meaningfully speak to the specific experiences and unique circumstances of an organization, its staff, the challenges it faces. That's why Justice Informed approaches all client learning and development work through the lens of Relational Specificity—the idea that when we tailor social impact work to the specific needs and experiences of an individual team or organization, and specifically, those who have been historically and presently marginalized or minoritized within them, the impact is most meaningfully felt. Are you interested in learning more about how a relationally specific learning and development session can meaningfully speak to the unique social impact challenges and opportunities faced by your team or organization?
