Introducing our BRJE Board! 📢👏 Meet Alec, one of our most recent board members to join the team. Lebovitz is a Brookline Town Meeting Member representing Coolidge Corner and a member of the Brookline Advisory Committee. Alec is very active within the community and has led local initiatives including the passage of local protections for reproductive and gender-affirming care, advocating for rent stabilization and tenant protections, and the creation of the Brookline Youth Council. We’re so lucky to have him as part of our team! 🤩

Let's eliminate racism in Brookline.
About us
BRJE’s mission is to eliminate racism in Brookline, Massachusetts. We envision an accessible and inclusive Brookline where people of color live, learn, work, visit, build power, and thrive free of racism and oppression. We’ll get there by building an informed, motivated, and organized constituency for racial justice while leveraging our collective power to reshape the systems around us. Our focus areas are: Access: Ensuring that people of color can afford to live in Brookline by eliminating restrictive barriers to housing, childcare, early education, recreation programs, food, and other essentials. Inclusion: Ensuring that people of color can meaningfully participate in social and civic life by eliminating barriers to political participation and by actively enforcing civil rights protections. Opportunity: Ensuring that the health, environmental, and educational benefits of Brookline are maximized for people of color while creating effective pathways to economic mobility. Our work includes: Building strong, loving, and mutually supportive relationships between and among communities of color and allies in Brookline. Educating Brookline residents on the negative impacts of racial inequities and the merits of racially just policies and practices. Increasing the representation of people of color and racial justice allies in leadership and decision-making roles. Working in partnership with local government and community organizations to design and implement racially just policies and practices. Amplifying voices of communities of color, motivating allies toward action, and pressing leaders on matters of racial justice. Holding our community accountable for making measurable progress by conducting research and sharing data on key metrics. #racism

Great coverage of our Brookline for Racial Justice & Equity survey. “[People of color] are leading the way, saying ‘yes, we need to be shifting resources, we need to be increasing taxes,’” Fernandez said. “The folks of color that are represented in this survey are people who have found a way, at least for now, to live in Brookline. Not represented in this survey are all the people who could be living in Brookline if we were to address these issues more meaningfully.”
