  • We’re proud to share that Andrew Shanahan and Connor Gillespie presented this month at FIRE PREVENTION ASSOCIATION OF MASSACHUSETTS INC (FPAM). FPAM is a leading organization dedicated to advancing fire prevention practices and fostering collaboration among safety professionals across the state. Their presentation focused on Hazardous Materials Design and Control Areas, covering critical topics such as: - Classification of hazardous materials - Maximum allowable quantities - Strategies for building control areas - Common design mistakes in facilities managing hazardous materials The session offered valuable guidance on navigating the complexities of 527 and 780CMR to ensure safety and compliance. In addition, we showcased our valve trailer, demonstrating the unique training capabilities Jigsaw Life Safety offers to fire departments. This hands-on training tool was a standout feature, allowing us to directly show fire departments how we support their response to buildings equipped with fire protection and fire alarm systems. A big thank you to Jake Nunnemacher for working with us to make this presentation possible and to FPAM for the opportunity to contribute. Together, we create a safer tomorrow! #HazardousMaterials #LifeSafety #FPAM #FireSafety #Training

  • As you may know by now, the 10th Edition of the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR) is finally here which is an amended version of The 2021 International Building Code (IBC). The amendments to the 2021 IBC that were accepted by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eN8mbtnq Several weeks ago, The Board of Building Regulations and Standards determined that the 10th Edition would officially go into effect on October 11, 2024. They approved a concurrency period from October 11 through January 1, 2025, where projects can either be permitted under the 9th Edition or the new 10th Edition. However, on October 21st a special meeting of the BBRS was held to discuss this concurrency period. It was at that meeting where it was agreed upon that the concurrency period would extend to June 30, 2025. While this will not be official until various State agencies approve it, it appears the concurrency period will be extended. This gives projects currently under design a little more breathing room if they wish to be permitted under the 9th Edition of 780 CMR. Curious about the changes in the 10th Edition that may impact your current and future projects? Reach out to Jigsaw Life Safety and we can help you understand the impact of this new code.

  • Last Thursday, our team from Jigsaw Life Safety, including Alex, Andrew, and Connor, took our specialized valve trailer to the Watertown Fire Department for an instructive demonstration tailored for firefighters. The session focused on hands-on learning about different sprinkler systems including wet, dry, and pre-action. Participants gained practical skills in draining systems post-activation and deepened their understanding of fire alarm panels, cabling, and notification/initiation devices. We are committed to enhancing safety knowledge and are thrilled to announce that we will return to Watertown three more times to extend this training across the entire city. For those interested in bringing this training to your area, please contact Alex at ariley@jigsawlifesafety.com. We pride ourselves on our strong relationships with departments throughout new England and are dedicated to supporting your safety needs.
