About us

The Sheridan Libraries and University Museums support research and discovery at Johns Hopkins University. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library, Brody Learning Commons, Albert D. Hutzler Reading Room, George Peabody Library, John Work Garrett Library, and Irene and Richard Frary Library. The University Museums encompass Homewood Museum and Evergreen Museum & Library. Our collections include digital and audio/visual material as well as cultural and print materials such a books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, and fine and decorative art. The mission of the Sheridan Libraries and University Museums is to make our services, resources, and staff expertise accessible to the entire Hopkins community. We also aim to make our collections and our institutional knowledge accessible to and reflective of the broader public.

  • Attention Blue Jays- don't forget that starting December 24th, the MSE Library Annex, Brody Learning Commons, Hutzler Reading Room, Hodson Hall, and George Peabody Library will have adjusted hours for winter break!⁠ ⁠ From December 24th through January 1st the MSE Library Annex, Brody Learning Commons, Hutzler Reading Room, and Hodson Hall will be CLOSED. On January 2nd, these buildings will switch to our intersession hours. The George Peabody Library will be closed tomorrow, December 20th through January 4th, and will revert to normal hours on January 5th. ⁠ We hope you have a restful and rejuvenating holiday season! ❄️

  • We are thrilled to be announce that Lecturer in the University Writing Program at Johns Hopkins University Dr. Laura Hartmann-Villalta and our own Librarian for English, Philosophy, Writing Seminars, and Special Collections Student Engagement have been designated the winner of the MLA-EBSCO Collaboration for Information Literacy Prize for their course entitled “Reintroduction to Writing: Sheridan Libraries Collaboration”. Targeting coursework developed in collaboration between department faculty members and academic librarians in literature, language, or related disciplines, this award recognizes successful integration of the disciplinary objectives of the course with learning objectives in information literacy.   • The Winston Tabb Special Collections Research Center is pleased to announce that Savannah G.M. Wood has been awarded a $25,000 public humanities fellowship for 2024-25! The program, which was launched in 2022, supports Baltimore-based organizers, artists, cultural workers, and knowledge-creators as they research with and creatively interpret the university’s Special Collections and Archives. Wood is an artist and writer with deep roots in Baltimore and Los Angeles. As executive director of Afro Charities, she works to increase access to the archives of the AFRO American Newspapers, the oldest family-owned African American newspaper in the United States.   • Blue Jays, in response to your feedback about study space needs during Reading Days and finals, we are increasing the number of study areas and extending the hours of existing ones! These locations will remain accessible through the end of the exam period and will add approximately 2,000 extra seats to campus study spaces.
