EASL Hosts First NYC Company Crawl at Madison Square Garden, ESPN, Endeavor, Sony Music Entertainment, MSCHF, Tiffany & Co. and National Basketball Association (NBA)! Last month, following the conclusion of the semester, 23 third year JD/LL.M. and LL.M. students gathered in New York for our first-ever University of Miami School of Law Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law (EASL) NYC Company Crawl. Our students demonstrated commitment to their personal growth, learning, and industry connectivity by taking time—on their own dime—after the semester to travel to New York for these valuable visits. This event is also a testament to the strength of our exceptional and dedicated practitioner community. In just a couple of weeks, we were able to arrange 7 outstanding company visits spanning entertainment, sports, arts and fashion, along with a holiday reception with students, alumni and practitioner friends of the Program at Jayaram and a lunch hosted by dedicated law school graduate Nancy Chemtob. A recap of the first NYC EASL Crawl by the numbers: - 3 days of meetings - 23 EASL students participated - 7 companies visited: MSG, ESPN, Endeavor, Sony Music, MSCHF, Tiffany & Co., and the NBA - 43 lawyers across those visits engaged with our students - 20+ alumni, advisors, and program friends attended the holiday reception at Jayaram Law - 1 alum hosted lunch for the student group Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be sharing highlights from these incredible visits. Let’s kick things off with our first stop at Madison Square Garden. We were graciously hosted by Miami Law alum Leah Aaronson, VP of Legal & Business Affairs, Litigation at Madison Square Garden Entertainment. Leah welcomed us to the brand-new offices at The Garden, where she moderated a panel discussion with lawyers from across the organization, who shared valuable insights into their roles, career paths, and the legal and business matters that cross their desk on a daily basis. The panelists were: Christopher Schimpf, Senior VP & Associate General Counsel, Venue Operations (Madison Square Garden Entertainment & Sphere) Jim Cooperman, Senior VP & Associate General Counsel, Entertainment (Madison Square Garden Entertainment) Cristina Silva Hoyos, VP Legal & Business Affairs, Public Company (Sphere) Michael C. Lydakis, Senior Counsel, Legal & Business Affairs, Basketball Operations (Madison Square Garden Sports) After the panel, students had the chance to ask questions before we concluded the visit with a full tour of the Garden. We learned about the many exciting innovations that have made the arena even more fan-friendly and attractive to host major events and unique commercial opportunities. We are incredibly grateful to all of the attorneys and staff who took the time to share their expertise and connect with our students, and a special thank you to Leah for being such a wonderful host!
