Dr. Christina Y. Weng, a leader in ophthalmology, recently shared her researched findings with Ophthalmology Times on how teleretinal screening programs — like those offered by IRIS — are revolutionizing primary care by improving access and compliance, especially for underserved groups. Dr. Weng co-authored an Ophthalmic Technology Assessment (OTA) for the Blue Journal that explored the effectiveness of teleretinal screening. Here's what she had to say about their findings: "...this OTA supports that teleretinal screening for diabetic retinopathy has multiple benefits, including increasing screening capacity for large populations, offering a cost-effective and patient-friendly approach, and improving access to care and compliance — potentially preventing vision loss." Dr. Weng is a Professor of Ophthalmology and the Fellowship Program Director for Vitreoretinal Diseases & Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Hoston, TX.
