At the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety - IBHS, we know the key mitigation actions needed to bend down the risk of wildfire embers entering and igniting the homes within a California neighborhood. The first line of defense? A noncombustible Zone 0 – the first five feet around your home. The Town of Paradise is putting that science into action by integrating IBHS’s Wildfire Prepared Home standards into their town code. Megan Fan Munce, of the San Francisco Chronicle, joined Mercury Insurance and me in Paradise earlier this month to recovery from the Camp Fire in action. https://lnkd.in/eB5SbKDW

⁉️ Why is a wind-rated garage door important? ℹ️ When wind blows on a garage door, it exerts pressure that is redirected around the home (blue arrows➡️ ). However, if a non-wind-rated garage door fails, wind pressure builds up inside, creating internal pressure that pushes on the roof and walls (red arrows). This combination of internal and external forces can cause weak connections on your roof or exterior walls to fail, starting a cascade of damage. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eJCGBB66.
