🎙️ Unpacking Resilience This week on The Unbuzzed Podcast, we’re tackling one of the most overused and misunderstood buzzwords out there: resilience. Enter Jonathan. From my first conversation with him, I learned that resilience wasn’t something he started with—it’s something he earned. It’s the byproduct of battling relentless self-talk and overcoming an early message someone planted in his mind: “You’re not going to make it.” Jonathan didn’t just prove that person wrong—he redefined what’s possible, one impossible feat at a time. ✨ A Journey Beyond Limits We first crossed paths during one of my late-night LinkedIn explorations, where I stumbled across a post that stopped me mid-scroll. Jonathan had just completed a 58-mile ultramarathon. A few posts later, I discovered he had also conquered 1,000 pull-ups. My first thought: “Why?” My second thought: “How?!” My third thought: “I need to hear this guy’s story.” So I reached out, and, thankfully, he obliged. 🐾 Small Steps: Embracing the Incremental What struck me most wasn’t just the sheer scale of what he accomplished, but how he did it: by breaking everything down into manageable steps. That’s his secret sauce—focusing on one mile, one pull-up, one challenge at a time, and simply refusing to quit. The whole time I was listening to him share his story, Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote kept coming into focus: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” Jonathan truly lives by these words, and in our conversation, we unpack what that looks like in real life. 🎧 Join Us for Episode 5 with Jonathan Z. Cohen This episode is a deep dive into what resilience actually means—beyond the corporate spin and self-help clichés. Jonathan’s story will inspire you and maybe even make you rethink how you approach challenges in your own life. Join me for Episode 5 of The Unbuzzed Podcast, where we dismantle buzzwords one conversation at a time. Tune in, get inspired, and maybe challenge yourself to do something that scares you—though I wouldn’t suggest starting with 58 miles or 1,000 pull-ups. Baby steps. Speaking of, dear gym… see you soon. "A man who grasps principles, can create his own methods." Emerson 1 key principle to rock 2025: Identify, audit, and improve your internal feedback loop. If your feedback loop is self sabotaging, growth suffers. If it's constructive growth becomes routine. Stress testing principles builds mental fitness, resilience, and improves decision making. Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates (a multi-billion dollar hedge fund), philanthropist, and author of 'Principles' emphasizes the importance of clearly defining principles. His goal setting framework is about reflecting on failures to refine the approach, and iterate toward success. The less time you spend ruminating about failure, the more time you can spend in identifying principles, improving performance, achieving, and setting new goals. What principles are you stress testing in 2025? Photo cc: Principles by Ray Dalio

Here’s a question to ask yourself every night before you get to bed: “What is something I have today that I would have prayed for one year ago?” Creating relativity around desire versus progress opens up the aperture of your life. Waking up at 5 AM every day and feeling behind the 8 ball is frustrating. But maybe a year ago you struggled to get out of bed at 7 AM. A year ago I prayed for the outcomes I get today, but feel like I haven’t moved the needle. Speaking on stages. Running on the road. Growing the podcast. Performing in the gym. Being a leader at home. Maybe you feel like you’re in the same space you were a year ago, but feeling that way doesn’t make it true. Creating relativity helps you spend less time in rumination and more time in action. The next time you get insecure about progress - take a look around. You may not be in the same space. Have a positive Sunday evening. ----------------------------------- I'm Jonathan Z. Cohen. Follow for posts about fitness, mindset, and personal growth.

Elon Musk wakes up everyday asking himself this trillion dollar question: "How can I be useful today?" The utility question focuses on what problems can be identified, solved, and scaled . In Elon's case, an example would be driving down the cost of the manufacturing process for a car, rocket, or robot. (Cause apparently the same part costs 10 times less when made for a car instead of a rocket). For you it may be learning a new skill, acting a sounding board for a friend, or sharing a meaningful insight with your community. Either way, the utility frame can optimize your output 10x by focusing on needle moving tasks. Would you use the utility frame? -------------------------------------- I'm Jonathan Z. Cohen. The biggest misconception about perfectionism: Perfectionism isn't a standard - it's an obstacle to progress. Perfectionism is a form of self sabotage. Putting content, ideas, or work into the atmosphere expedites the feedback loop. With feedback you can iterate and improve. By the time you've questioned, assessed and analyzed, assessed - the competition has already put their idea out, iterated 20x, and moved on. Treat your work as an evolving organism. The magic is in the doing, not the waiting. Agree? -------------------------------------- I'm Jonathan Z. Cohen. Follow for posts about fitness, mindset, and personal growth.
