Our first design win for solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs), powered by our patented B-TRAN® technology, is here, thanks to an exciting collaboration with a leading Asian circuit protection manufacturer. Together, we’re developing a groundbreaking SSCB product aimed at grid-tied solar and energy storage providers, as well as utility electric distribution networks. B-TRAN® enables SSCBs with ultra-low conduction losses while also providing bidirectional capabilities. SSCBs are fast-acting, safer, and more reliable than traditional electromechanical circuit breakers. Unlike traditional semiconductors that are fabricated on one side of the wafer, B-TRAN® is fabricated on both sides and operates bidirectionally, boosting efficiency and cutting costs. We’ve moved from research to commercialization, including collaborating with Stellantis on a B-TRAN®-based module for their next-gen drivetrain inverter. As we pursue design wins and volume commitments, we’re helping customers turn innovation into reality. Hear more from our CFO, Tim Burns, in his recent Sequire Spotlight interview. While the rest of EV technology has leaped forward, most of the industry still relies on mechanical contactors for charging, prompting us to rethink how we handle the flow of power in electric vehicles. Solid-state contactors offer a fast, lighter, and more reliable alternative by eliminating the wear and tear issues of mechanical options and can integrate advanced safety diagnostics. This, however, results in higher conduction loss. How do we circumvent this? Ultra-low loss bidirectional power semiconductors: innovative switches that make solid-state circuit breakers viable AND efficient. Read more about how we can overcome these challenges in this super informative article by our own VP of Business Development, Jeff Knapp: https://lnkd.in/eDrF598B #ElectricVehicles #Semiconductors #EVs

Germany is paving the way for bidirectional charging in Q1 of 2025, allowing EVs to send power back to the grid. This is huge for anyone invested in the energy transition. Bidirectional charging means your EV can earn its keep. With reduced grid fees and electricity tax relief, charging when prices are low and selling back when they’re high could offset ownership costs. Imagine your car paying part of your electricity bill and acting as a mobile energy storage unit, helping smooth out peaks and valleys in electricity demand. As renewable energy sources like wind and solar become dominant, we’ll need to better manage fluctuations in supply and demand. A more stable grid will benefit everyone. What excites you most about this? Are there hurdles you think we still need to clear?
