Since 2021, we’ve mobilized over $253 million in philanthropic capital for seventy-four grantees around the world through ICONIQ Impact’s Co-Labs—our collaborative philanthropy funds that enable donors to learn about and jointly support pressing issues like climate change, education inequity, and the youth mental health crisis.    Curious to learn more about our Co-Labs? • David Bonderman (1942-2024) We’re deeply saddened by the passing this morning of TPG co-founder David Bonderman, a longtime member of our advisory board, trusted mentor, and cherished friend to ICONIQ. A pioneer in the world of private equity, David shaped industries and transformed businesses through his investments and seats on the boards of more than 80 global companies. Outside of the investment world, he was a quietly passionate advocate for conservation, education, and the arts. David had an uncanny knack for posing the question everyone was thinking but no one wanted to ask—a rare quality that challenged us to think deeper, act smarter, and never shy away from hard truths. It’s a trait we often talked about and will always remember. Around the dinner table, David was always eager to talk about his lifelong passions for music and sports. Indeed, among other accomplishments, he was instrumental in establishing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and launching the Seattle Kraken hockey franchise. Above all, we’ll remember David not just for what he did but how he did it. A true citizen of the world, he inspired our own approach to building meaningful relationships through authenticity, integrity, and what we now call Uncommon Care. David's incredible achievements were only matched by his profound humility. We’ll miss him greatly. https://lnkd.in/g722nUDp

On Sunday, we lost our dear friend and creative legend, Quincy “Q” Jones, at 91. Q’s impact on music is unmatched—working with icons like Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, and Count Basie; orchestrating We Are the World; and producing Thriller. Our journey with Q began in ICONIQ’s early days, from gatherings with our community to late-night chats at his Bel Air home, a museum of music history. He was generous with his wisdom and passion, inspiring everyone he met. Q, you were a true icon and we’ll miss you deeply. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, collaborators, and fans. As always he said, “Keep on keepin’ on… don’t stop ‘til you get enough.” 🎶 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gW9F5RX4

Matti Navellou, head of ICONIQ Impact, recently sat down with System Catalysts to discuss the benefits of collaborative, trust-based philanthropy. It’s an all-too-common dynamic that when nonprofits secure funding, they’re often at the whims of the donor, who can dictate what strategy to pursue, what outcomes to measure, and even how to run the organization. Nonprofits must choose between receiving funding or retaining control. To upend this power imbalance, and rightfully recognize grantees as experts in their field, many donors are now turning to trust-based philanthropy. Our Co-Labs enable donors to jointly fund a portfolio of grantees with a trust-based approach. We provide grantees with multi-year, unrestricted funding, simplify the due diligence process, and minimize the reporting burden. By developing genuine relationships with our grantees and jointly evaluating impact, we’re able to assess real-world change without undermining their independence. “The best part about this model—the collaborative fund model—is that we’re able to support about twenty grantees per portfolio in a way where they’re just reporting into one entity. They don’t have to report into ten different donors asking them for different things and different measurements. We’re very proud to espouse a trust-based philanthropy approach.” Interested in learning more about our model for collaborative, trust-based giving? • We’re excited to see our founding partner Michael Anders representing ICONIQ Impact on stage at the #ForbesIconoclast Summit.   To move the needle on issues like climate change, gender equity, poverty, and the like, it's imperative that we move capital with urgency and rigor. It’s also essential that we do so with equity at the center, trusting grantees and those closest to the issues to design and implement the strategies they see fit.

  • Our founding partner Divesh Makan sat down with Bloomberg TV host and legendary investor David Rubenstein for a rare wide-ranging interview about ICONIQ Capital’s birth, our investment strategy, the picks and shovels of AI, collaborative philanthropy, and the remarkable community upon which we’re built.
