Amidst #UNGA79, #WorldContraceptionDay and #InternationalSafeAbortionDay, September also marked the 30th anniversary of the first International Conference on Population and Development (#ICPD). While massive strides have been made towards the bold commitments set for #genderequality and sexual and #reproductivehealth 30 years ago, pervasive myths and insufficient investment perpetuate poor #SRH outcomes for women and adolescent girls in #humanitariansettings. In Alliance magazine, International Rescue Committee's Erin Wheeler discusses these myths and calls on donors, governments, humanitarian and development actors alike to step up and ensure #SRHR in crises is prioritized. https://lnkd.in/eijZ-xX4

The IAWG Newborn Initiative was established in 2020 to provide sustained and directed support for the global agenda for #newbornhealth in #humanitarian settings and ensure global progress reflects the intentional efforts to integrate #maternal and #newborn health across the development humanitarian nexus. With the end of 2024 approaching and the sunsetting of the IAWG Newborn Initiative, a program evaluation was conducted to examine successes and challenges, to capture stakeholder insights, and to better understand priorities for the #MNH in humanitarian settings community moving forward. Read more about this evaluation and its findings, like the infographics below, here ➡ https://lnkd.in/eP59MTtb

Obstetric referral is critical to ensuring access to appropriate and timely services, and it can potentially decrease neonatal mortality by 18%, stillbirths by 27%, and maternal deaths by 50%. Therefore, ensuring a functional referral pathway between facilities that are classified to deliver basic and comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care services is critical, especially in settings with weakened or constrained health systems and in periods of insecurity and instability. Read more in a new qualitative #research study from International Rescue Committee examining the practices and experiences of clients and providers along the #BEmONC to #CEmONC referral pathway in humanitarian contexts in #Nigeria and #CAR: https://lnkd.in/evMyWyPm #humanitariansettings #maternalhealth #newbornhealth #referralpathway #EmONC
