Education and Action for a zero waste, litter-free and an environmentally engaged San Diego County.

About us

Celebrating 70 years in 2024, I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) is an environmental nonprofit supporting residents and businesses of San Diego County. ILACSD was founded in 1954 as the San Diego War Against Litter Committee (WALC), in the 1970s, “I Love A Clean San Diego” became the slogan for the organization’s anti-litter campaign, and in 1980, it became the organization’s name. Over the last seven decades, ILACSD has evolved into the nonprofit it is today, providing programs that go far beyond litter cleanups and serve as environmental catalysts. Our programs inspire and empower San Diegans to be environmental and waste-free living leaders in their communities.

  • As 2024 comes to an end, we want to give a huge thank you to all the companies that participated in our Corporate CleanBuilding program this year! Together, 18 companies and 1,332 volunteers worked to remove 3,855 pounds of trash from communities across San Diego County.   The impact of these efforts goes far beyond just cleaning up our streets and beaches—this trash would have otherwise made its way to the Pacific Ocean, harming marine life and impacting the environment. By removing nearly 4,000 pounds of litter, these volunteers have helped protect wildlife, improve water quality, and keep our local ecosystems thriving.   We’re incredibly grateful for the dedication and teamwork shown by our amazing corporate partners. Your commitment to a cleaner, healthier San Diego is truly inspiring.   This could be your company next year! With our Corporate CleanBuilding program and educational Lunch & Learn sessions, you and your colleagues can join in on this incredible impact.   Fill out our inquiry form to get started: https://lnkd.in/guYQj7NY

#PlanetFlip Waste Wizard test your knowledge on waste management. It's easy and fun. Knowing what does in recycling and organic bins makes a big difference. It can reduce our landfills. Reducing landfills reduce emissions and help cool the planet. UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering now has courses in designing and developing games for #PlanetFlip. My special thanks to Anais Rodriguez Putnam, Zero Waste San Diego, The City of San Diego Recycling, and I Love A Clean San Diego. https://lnkd.in/gyetcmNB

🎃 On October 26th, Zero Waste San Diego teamed up with ClicBitz, I Love A Clean San Diego, Republic Services, and the City of Carlsbad to bring a spooktacular Halloween-themed SD Fixit Clinic Reuse & Repair Fair! 🎃 Attendees didn’t just get to repair their favorite items—they could also recycle e-waste, swap old Halloween costumes for “new-to-them” finds, and even learn to sew superhero capes and trick-or-treat bags from upcycled prom dresses and Halloween fabric! 👻🧵 This event was proof that collaboration with like-minded organizations is key to creating fun, hands-on learning experiences that support sustainability and our community. 💪🌎 Because teamwork truly makes the dream work! ✨ The real highlight? Watching young heroes-in-training at the sewing machines, totally focused and lighting up with excitement. Parents beamed as they saw their kids not only learning new skills but also embracing the joy of creation. Once those capes were finished? It turned into a mini superhero convention, with kids zooming around, capes flying, and spreading smiles everywhere they went! 🦸♂️🦸♀️ We also want to extend a huge thank you to Senator Catherine Blakespear and Matt Rubel for honoring us with a certificate of recognition! Your support and dedication to zero waste in California inspire us all. We’re so grateful to have you as our zero waste champions! 🙌💚
