❗ TODAY❗is Give to the Max Day, and fair housing in Minnesota faces unprecedented challenges. Your support is crucial as we face potential erosion of vital housing safeguards at the federal level. At the Housing Justice Center, we've been at the forefront of protecting renters' rights for 25 years, but our work is more crucial now than ever before. In 2024, we've achieved significant victories: • Secured over $2 million in compensation for low-income families • Successfully defended rent stabilization ordinances • Championed a statewide right to organize for renters • Published comprehensive resources for tenant organizing • Challenged opposition to affordable housing development However, with potential rollbacks of federal protections looming, we need your support to continue safeguarding vulnerable communities from housing discrimination. Our goal: Raise $10,000 to strengthen our legal, policy, and community organizing efforts. Thanks to our generous donors, we have met our initial $1000 match! Your contribution, whether $10, $25, $75, or any amount, directly impacts our ability to ensure all Minnesotans have access to safe, stable, and discrimination-free housing. Donate before midnight to support our anniversary goal of $10,000 and help us maintain Minnesota's leadership in housing justice. #GiveToTheMax #HousingJustice #FairHousing

This is a great case and highlights the type of abuses that are happening in manufactured home communities around the state.
Many thanks to KARE 11 Danny Spewak for calling attention to the plight of Legal Aid clients who say life in their mobile home park has been miserable. We're working to change that by filing a class action lawsuit with our partners at Robins Kaplan LLP. When you support Legal Aid, you're ensuring the law is on the side of clients who are low-income, elderly, some living with disabilities, some who are veterans — all deserving justice. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/g6zsAx3X

Please join us in saying CONGRATULATIONS 🎉 to Emma Diers, HJC's VISTA Tenant Organizer from 2022-23, for being named as a Student Writer for the Iowa Law Review! At HJC, Emma worked to build tenant associations with residents, create infrastructure for housing justice coalitions, and collect and summarize data from every city in Minnesota on manufactured home communities-work that is the basis of a mapping tool we are creating as a community resource. We know this is just one of what will be a long list of career and community achievements for Emma.
The Volume 110 Editorial Board is so excited to welcome our Student Writers! We are so excited to have such an incredible group of students join our team. Congratulations to Volume 110 Student Writers!

We are deeply disappointed by the U.S. Supreme Court decision issued today in the case of Grants Pass v. Johnson. People who experience homelessness should not be punished for society's failure to recognize the need for safe, stable, affordable, and dignified places for people to call home free from discriminatory barriers. Homelessness and housing insecurity are solvable. Criminalizing poverty creates further harm.
