As we enter 2025, let’s work towards ushering in the next era of systemic support for young people’s mental health and well-being. 🙅♀️ “It’s really hard to say no to money, but if the investors aren’t seeing eye-to-eye and that doesn’t feel like a fit, I feel it's really important to say no to that person if they’re going to incidentally sort of distract you from your mission and vision.” — Nathaan Demers, Hopelab Principal Investor. ⚡Sabrina Runbeck, MPH, MHS, PA-C of PulsePoint Path discusses Hopelab’s approach to transforming mental health support for young people with Nathaan on the Health Tech Growth podcast. 🔬 New research shows a 10-percentage point difference in whether or not adolescents access mental health care when parental consent laws are state-mandated. 🤝 We helped fund the recent study done by the Lab for Scalable Mental Health at Feinberg with lead researcher Jessica Schleider, PhD. The study analyzed data on the prevalence of major depressive episodes in adolescents and compared the treatment rates in states that require parental consent and those that don’t. “State policies have a significant impact on whether adolescents can access [mental health] services when they need them for depression.” —Lead Researcher, Jessica Schleider, PhD Read the summary of the research letter by Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/gunTG-pd #youthpolicy #youthmentalhealth

💫 We’re reflecting on moments of joy, connection, and hope this holiday season and are grateful for your continued partnership. Your support enables us to create more equitable opportunities for all young people. As we enter the New Year, we dedicate ourselves to strengthening these partnerships in service of fostering greater mental health and well-being outcomes for Black, Brown, and Queer young people. 🎁 In appreciation of our ongoing partnership and in lieu of a physical gift, we have made a donation on your behalf to Oakland Kids First, Youth Vs Apocalypse , and 18by Vote . These organizations’ work in their communities has truly inspired us this past year. 💝 We look forward to more moments of joy, connection, and hope in 2025. ❄️ Happy holidays!❄️ — The Hopelab Team

Check out Ria Babaria and I on Teen Vogue, discussing approaching adolescent mental health beyond a one-size fits all approach! Basic needs and health policies, while designed to provide support, often fail in practice when individuals lack confidence in those systems. Punitive responses to crises (such as criminalization or suspension/expulsion from school) deter individuals from utilizing available resources, even in life-threatening situations. Over the past several years, we've moved the needle in destigmatizing the expression of mental health struggles and disability. However, a response to struggle that retaliates against those seeking services normalizes harm rather than encouraging care. Youth know best how institutions can support their own well-being. Our article discusses why effective youth representation & co-governance can be helpful in accurately portraying mental health struggles and therefore more effectively inform the delivery of care towards young adults and adolescents. Thank you to Robin Russell Raskob and the rest of Hopelab for platforming this piece! Read here! https://lnkd.in/geA59HnC
