As renters, Jarrod Kluk and Erandenie Hernandez would have loved to own a home at Puget Ridge Cohousing Association (PRCA), but didn’t see it as a possibility.     “Growing up, I moved every two years. My family experienced pretty perpetual housing insecurity,” said Jarrod. But upon moving to PRCA, the couple felt as though they had finally found community AND home.     “Everything felt right…I was like, oh, this actually feels like where we need to be,” said Kluk.     Thanks to Homestead, Jarrod and Era were able to fulfill their dream of homeownership—buying the first ever land trust unit at PRCA!     Over 30 years, Homestead has provided more than 300 permanently affordable homeownership opportunities to first-time buyers, like Jarrod and Era. From hosting our fall benefit with renowned author Isabel Wilkerson to completing transformative projects like The Southard homes, your support has fueled meaningful progress! 🏡 Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished this year, thanks to you:  • 318 first-time homebuyer opportunities created and 32 households supported through Section 8 rental housing.  •Construction completed on The Southard homes, the first in the nation certified net-zero energy and “Salmon Safe.”  •Groundbreaking on two projects in Phinney Ridge, bringing 39 permanently affordable homes to a neighborhood once governed by racially restrictive covenants.  •Collaboration with communities in Skyway and Hilltop to build affordable housing and strengthen community capacity in areas facing displacement.  •Expansion of our development pipeline to 240 homes, positioning us to double the number of homes in trust over the next five years. Vitus has recently started a Lunch & Learn series for our team. This week we were fortunate to have two terrific speakers. We were able to hear about the tremendous work Kathleen Hosfeld and her team at Homestead Community Land Trust have been doing to create paths towards affordable homeownership for their residents. We were also able to hear from Ismael Guerrero and Joseph Thompson, the CEO & President, and President of NW at Mercy Housing. They shared some of their fantastic resident engagement programs that support education, family health and upward mobility within their affordable housing communities. Our team appreciates the opportunity to connect and share ideas with these organizations, and we look forward to future opportunities to learn from our peers.
