Advanced architecture studio with Sunny Li - developed by Steve Zdepski, this studio focuses on the glass works at Misercordia, in Venice Italy - a city on the water. From the syllabus: the central question is what Architecture might become; what is its potential as each new building is inserted into its unique context and specific place in time? How can architecture simultaneously evolve from its historical continuum, be derived from contemporary culture, appropriately respond to season, weather and time of day, be of its time and place, and also be built for posterity? Venice is a city built on water. It is preposterous. If you couldn’t see it with your own eyes and touch it with your fingers, you would think it was some poetic fancy. It really shouldn’t be there at all. But it is. And it is beautiful beyond words. Russell Norman.

Excited to share my recently completed studio project in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, NY. This residential building focuses on a thoughtfully designed façade that complements its surroundings while standing out with its unique architectural details. The brick staggered arches around the windows were designed to frame varying levels and heights, adding depth and texture to the street-facing perspective. #Architecture #Design #Gowanus #Brooklyn #FacadeDesign #ResidentialArchitecture #urbanlandscape NJIT Hillier College of Architecture and Design New Jersey Institute of Technology

12/7 The New York Times featured an article on #Hadrian's aqueduct, #Athens. Always ahead of the curve, in 2017 Prof. Georgeen Theodore started working on a toolkit including a three-dimensional digital model of the aqueduct to empower citizens to have a say in how that water is used. Now the water flow in the aqueduct has been restored, with extensive community participation, the pilot initiative will distribute the water to several neighborhoods and be used irrigation of green spaces to cool the urban heat island effect. What stands out is how other EU cities are looking to this pilot - as the collaborative nature of the initiative and citizen engagement are distinctive. “We are using the skills of designers to help democratize a big infrastructure project. We want to make it understandable at a glance and create tools to help people see it.” Georgeen Theodore https://lnkd.in/e6xbHyWi Read more about the project and others in the EU https://lnkd.in/eC8RNtnp #water #community #aqueduct #governance #urbancooling #greenspaces
