Last week, Hey Jane officially helped our 70,000th patient get the care they need. Passing such a big milestone was an important reminder to our team that the work we do matters—each and every patient, each and every day. On the day that Roe v. Wade was overturned? We were here, providing care. On the day a judge in Texas tried to (and eventually failed to) restrict access to mifepristone? We were here, providing care. On Election Day? We were here, providing care. Getting safe, discreet reproductive and sexual health care—including abortion care—to people is what we do. And we’re going to keep doing it. If you—or someone you know—needs reproductive and sexual health care, Hey Jane is here for you. From abortion pills to birth control, emergency contraception to treatment for vaginal infections, we’ll always be a text away. Join us and continue to support our work in expanding abortion access during this pivotal moment at heyjane.com/action

Today marks a milestone day, not only for Hey Jane but for abortion access in Illinois: We’re proud to announce that Hey Jane now accepts Illinois Medicaid for our medication abortion services! By accepting both public and private insurance, Hey Jane is making abortion care more accessible—and ensuring that cost is not a barrier. Nationally, 45% of abortion patients are enrolled in Medicaid, and Illinois Medicaid covers over 3.4 million residents, many of whom face financial and logistical barriers to accessing care. Hey Jane’s innovative telemedicine model allows patients to receive care quickly and discreetly without the additional costs of travel, child care, overnight accommodations, or lost wages associated with accessing care in-person. In addition to Illinois Medicaid, Hey Jane accepts Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and other private insurance plans. “In this pivotal moment for reproductive health care, Hey Jane is leveraging technology and innovation to ensure safe, discreet, supportive care is available to as many people as possible,” says Hey Jane co-founder and CEO Kiki Freedman. “We’re committed to continuing to work to address barriers to care in the year ahead—regardless of the political climate—through expanding our Medicaid and private insurance coverage, launching our range of services in even more states, and expanding our strategic partnerships to ensure that we’re able to support as many people as possible during this critical time.” Illinois has emerged as a reproductive rights haven during the post-Roe era, with people throughout the South and Midwest traveling to the state to access care—leading to a surge that has stretched in-person clinic capacity and led to long appointment wait times. At Hey Jane we have already stepped up to meet this need, seeing a 93% increase in patients accessing care in Illinois since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and we’re continuing to find ways to fill this crucial need. In addition to now accepting Illinois Medicaid, Hey Jane has also launched a partnership with Planned Parenthood Illinois, whose patients now have the option of connecting with Hey Jane for a telemedicine abortion experience. These expansion efforts come as part of our broader mission to make abortion care accessible to everyone—and we’ll continue to lead the way forward.

While the majority of Americans support abortion access and reproductive freedom—as seen in big abortion ballot measure wins in a record number of states—those beliefs were not reflected in all of the results of the 2024 election. We are incredibly disappointed, but we want to be clear: People can still access abortion care with Hey Jane—and we are more committed than ever to providing safe, compassionate, evidence-based reproductive and sexual health care services. We stand in solidarity with our patients, providers, supporters, and fellow advocates during this challenging time. Despite the obstacles ahead, our team is confident that we can utilize technology, telemedicine, and community to ensure that individuals can continue to get care with Hey Jane, regardless of political climate. Because for millions of people this is essential health care, and no election outcome can change that. If you are heartbroken by the outcome of this election, there are concrete ways to act: - Spread the word that people in need of abortion care can still get it—nothing changes today! - Donate to abortion funds or practical support organizations, which have been vital in helping people get care and will play an even more important role in the future - Join The Un-Whisper Network, Hey Jane’s virtual community for people passionate about protecting abortion access: heyjane.com/action
