A message from our founder.
Professional MC & Speaker | Founder of Hey, Black Seattle! | Moving people towards a more joyful, connected, compassionate society.
I recently sat with Quinton Morris for his show Unmute the Voices and he asked me what I would say to a Black youth to encourage them if I were an ancestor. This was my answer. I share it today because I imagine some folks could use this reminder even if they are grown. Full interview link in the comments. We discussed allyship, internalized racism, my work founding Hey, Black Seattle!, making classical music more accessible and more. Take care of yourselves my loves. #blacklove

Hey, Black Seattle, have you heard that the Brooklyn-born, world-renowned AFROPUNK celebration is coming to Seattle this year? Yes, it's true! AFROPUNK Worldwide LLC has teamed up with KEXP and FRIENDS OF THE SEATTLE WATERFRONT to bring this iconic event to Seattle on Saturday, September 7th. Our purpose at Hey, Black Seattle! is to help make it easier for Black residents of the Greater Seattle Area to connect to the community and cultural resources + experiences they need to thrive while living here. So, when we heard that AFROPUNK was coming to Seattle, it felt right to share a roundup of the artists, community organizations, and Black businesses that were coming together to kickoff AFROPUNK's presence in our city. As the people who live here, we are the ones who will help shape the vibe of what AFROPUNK can be here, so let's turn out and turn up. Hit the link in the comments here to check out the Hey Black Seattle Guide to Seattle AFROPUNK!
