Historic Resources Group member and Historic Preservation Specialist Allison Geary recently directed the University of Oregon Pacific Northwest Preservation Field School at Deception Pass State Park. For nearly a month, participants gained hands-on experience in rehabilitating a historic 85-year-old comfort station (restroom), learning valuable techniques like log purlin repairs, window restoration, and metal fixture refurbishment. This immersive program fosters skill-sharing and professional networking among a diverse group—from students to seasoned experts—helping to ensure that the craft of historic preservation thrives for generations to come. This summer, we welcomed several talented architecture students—Ashleigh, Isabella, Jonah, Ke-An, and Sanskruti—into our studios. In addition to collaborating with project teams and visiting job sites, each intern undertook an independent research project. Topics included sound design, library evolution, intergenerational architecture, resilience vs. sustainability in wildfire-prone areas, and sustainable concrete. Our interns' contributions have enriched our practice and highlighted the future of architecture. Learn more about each intern's research here: https://lnkd.in/esTWVgte

We want to thank Hennebery Eddy Architects for sponsoring the 2024 ANCA Annual Summit last month. By supporting professional development and collaboration in our field, Hennebery Eddy’s sponsorship helps organizations nationwide stay true to their mission of connecting people with nature.
