In an increasingly competitive job market, how do you stand out as an exceptional candidate versus a good candidate? 1. Improve your talent magnet status: Build your personal brand by sharing expertise and being consistent on social media to increase your talent following for future hiring. 2. Demonstrate brand advocacy: Sharing company news, successes, and social activities demonstrates loyalty and that you're willing to be a brand ambassador. 3. Offer solutions for the hiring manager: There are only two reasons to hire someone: skill gap or bandwidth need. Identify this need and offer solutions and you're hired. 4. Be specific in your value-add: Everyone uses descriptors like "collaborative" or "results-oriented", but few provide specific examples of their value-add. 5. Send a comprehensive follow-up: Don't shy away from sending a follow-up beyond "thank you".
