Building the future... one girl at a time.

About us

Hekima Place is a nationally recognized home for orphaned and vulnerable Kenyan girls located in Kiserian, Kajiado County just outside Nairobi. The organization was established in 2005 as a 501(c)3 non-profit in the United States, followed by registration as a Kenyan trust later in 2005. The United States Board of Directors is responsible for funding and strategic planning, with the Kenyan board of trustees providing operational oversight. The Hekima Place family has grown from 10 girls living in rented space near Nairobi, to nearly 90 girls today ranging in age from infants to university students. The Hekima Place family also includes 25 dedicated Kenyan house mothers and staff members, as well as volunteers who visit and assist in our work. We strive to provide a safe, loving, and family-like home, where each girl is able to thrive and grow toward her full potential as an independent, successful, and engaged member of Kenyan society. A message from Rebeccah, Hekima Place Board of Trustees Chair regarding the recent flooding in Kenya: The recent rains have caused unimaginable damage to our surrounding communities. Conditions have been horrendous and the incessant rains have caused landslides and flash floods, destroying homes and claiming many lives. In many areas, roads are impassible and we do not know long this will last with more rains expected to fall. Hundreds of people have lost their homes and humanitarian groups are everywhere trying to help with food, blankets and medicine. Though conditions in Kenya are dire, Hekima Place and Hekima Hills Learning Centre are stable. We have some flooding around the home and school which are creating challenges but our staff, students, and the girls who live with us are safe. Reopening of Hekima Hills Learning Centre for the new term has been postponed until next week as government assesses the damages. Our hearts go out to all who have impacted and we will pray for each of you. As we continue to monitor situation, we will provide updates as information is received. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers at this time. https://lnkd.in/eYZ4gn8e
