🐻 Calling #CalAlumni, parents, students, and allies who care about #JewishLife on campus! ✡️ We're excited to announce that our interest-free student loan recipient, Hannah Schlacter, worked with #JewishPhilanthropist, Doug Goldman, to launch the Cal Jewish Alumni Network (CJAN). It's the first Jewish alumni group in UC Berkeley's history and lucky to call Doug their founding president. Since launching this fall and getting featured in J. The Jewish News of Northern California (CLICK BELOW to read the article), CJAN has grown to 450+ members and is aiming to reach 1,000 by the end of the year. Open to alumni, parents, faculty/staff, students and community allies, it's working to ensure the #belonging and #inclusion of Cal's Jews on campus and advocating for #JewishSafety and rights. It also serves UC Berkeley’s #JewishAlumni by promoting #JewishCulture, connection, and community. CLICK HERE to apply for free membership: https://lnkd.in/gNpRGf3C

As we approach the end of 2024, we want to share with you a few #CharitableGiving strategies that our partner organization, the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund, recently sent out for #donors to consider. Utilizing any of the strategies outlined below will help carry out Hebrew Free Loan’s mission to assist people in our community to become self-sufficient, and they can also reduce your own #TaxLiability. DONATE DIRECTLY TO HEBREW FREE LOAN Give Appreciated Assets: The rise in market values over the last 1½ years creates an opportunity to donate appreciated stock (https://lnkd.in/gnXa-7Ud) or other property to Hebrew Free Loan, receive a #TaxDeduction, and avoid capital gains tax that would otherwise be incurred if you sold the asset. Utilize #IRA Charitable Rollovers: You can satisfy the minimum distribution requirement from your IRA without incurring income tax by making a charitable rollover contribution of up to $105,000 this year, even if you don’t itemize deductions. This is an ideal way to make a gift to Hebrew Free Loan's annual campaign (www.hflasf.org/donate) or to provide loan capital for our interest-free lending programs. DONATE TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY FEDERATION AND ENDOWMENT FUND TO BENEFIT HEBREW FREE LOAN Establish or Add to your #DonorAdvisedFund at the Federation: If you want to be more planful about your giving or give more to charity to offset taxes, consider a contribution to your donor-advised fund (#DAF) at the Federation (https://lnkd.in/gr43gg8i), or start one there if you have not already. You can then direct these funds to Hebrew Free Loan (as well as other charities) now and in future years. A contribution of cash, stock, or other property representing several years’ worth of charitable giving can provide a deduction for the entire amount in the current year. Grants can then be made from the fund by request, over time. “Bunching” charitable contributions can enable you to exceed the standard deduction and maximize #TaxBenefits. While many financial institutions offer DAF services, Federation donor-advised funds offer benefits above and beyond commercial banks, such as personal service from a dedicated #philanthropy advisor with expertise in family philanthropy, #JewishCommunity knowledge, charitable gift planning support, and more. Start a Charitable Gift #Annuity: In exchange for a gift to the Federation, you can enjoy income for life with a Charitable Gift Annuity (https://lnkd.in/gkgFEVZe) that will benefit Hebrew Free Loan after your lifetime. Cash or appreciated assets yielding little can now become a means of receiving additional income going forward. A tax deduction is available for the amount of the contribution less the present value of the projected payments. The principal becomes part of the Federation's permanent endowment, and after your lifetime... CLICK HERE to read more: https://shorturl.at/NkNlB
