“President Carter will always be Habitat for Humanity’s most famous volunteer and the person who had the most influence in the organization’s exponential growth as a leader in housing development and policy change throughout the world,” said Steve Messinetti, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Portland Region. Steve met the Carters at several build sites and events. This photo was taken outside President Carter’s boyhood home in Plains, GA in 2014. “I believe President Carter’s legacy and principles will continue to be the True North for Habitat, causing us to continuously challenge ourselves to do more and be better for our community until everyone has an affordable place to live.” President Carter’s love for others inspired many people. We invite you to celebrate his life and share your stories through Habitat for Humanity International's online memory book – https://lnkd.in/eSwbN2cW

This is exciting progress 🥳
We’re taking Century Commons to new heights! Construction Manager Jesse Withers shares an exciting update from our community in Hillsboro 📣 Volunteers recently finished framing the second story of Building 8, setting the stage for our trade partners to fly the trusses (watch to the end for the crane 🏗️) Up next: roof sheathing and drying the building in. Stay tuned for more progress!

Over the last two days, Habitat for Humanity of Oregon, along with other representatives from the Unlocking Homeownership Coalition presented before the Senate and House housing committees on our priorities for the 2025 session. As Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity’s CEO mentions below: To meet Oregon’s housing needs, continued investment in programs like LIFT and HDIP is essential. Learn more about our full slate of priorities and join us in unlocking the doors of homeownership to thousands of Oregonians: homesfororegon.org
Yesterday, as a member of the Unlocking Homeownership Coalition, I had the privilege of presenting to the Senate Housing and Development Committee about two programs addressing Oregon's housing challenges: LIFT and HDIP. At Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity, LIFT funding has empowered us to build affordable, net zero homes, saving families thousands annually on energy costs. Meanwhile, HDIP is bridging the gap for workforce housing, ensuring that teachers, nurses, and first responders have access to stable, affordable homes. During the presentation, I highlighted success stories like the NW Cottages and Quince Townhomes projects, as well as our exciting partnership with Bend-La Pine Schools, to create a mixed-income community prioritizing district employees. To meet Oregon’s housing goals, continued investment in these programs is essential. Learn more about other coalition priorities here: www.homesfororegon.org #AffordableHousing #WorkforceHousing #LIFT #HDIP #HabitatForHumanity

This sobering report makes it clear that we still have much work to do in Oregon. We encourage you to take a look at the full State of the State's Housing, which highlights important data. Among the many concerning statistics, here is one to know: For every $1 Oregonians earned in wage increases, the median sales price of a home increased by $7.10.
ICYMI, we released our first State of the State Housing Report. Drawing from comprehensive data on housing markets, economic trends, and demographic shifts, the report highlights the challenges Oregon residents face in affording high-quality housing. Read the whole report at bit.ly/49kLv1U.
