This week, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Aerospace Security Project hosted "Celebrating the U.S. Space Force and Charting its Future", an event marking the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the U.S. Space Force. This significant gathering brought together government, military, and industry leaders to reflect on the Space Force’s origins, celebrate its accomplishments, and discuss its future mission and priorities. Our CEO, Mandy Vaughn, moderated an insightful panel titled "Assembling the Force: From Acquisition to Operations", featuring Hon. Frank Calvelli, Lt. Gen. Doug Schiess, Robert Lightfoot, and Tony Frazier. The panel explored critical themes such as streamlining acquisition processes, fostering commercial partnerships, and enhancing space capabilities to ensure resilience and readiness in an increasingly contested domain. While launch policy thrived with government support, remote sensing faced challenges due to restrictive practices. At the International Astronautical Congress 2024 in Milan, our CEO, Mandy Vaughn, who serves as Chair of the STEM, Education, Diversity & Inclusion Subcommittee within the National Space Council’s Users' Advisory Group (UAG), along with other esteemed UAG members and leaders in the industry, provided an update on the UAG’s ongoing efforts. The panel discussed key focus areas such as space exploration, economic development, climate and societal benefits, STEM education, and national security, while presenting recommendations aimed at driving progress and shaping the future of the space sector.

Big #SpaceBeach news: For the first time, the National Space Council’s User Advisory Group met in California today—and we brought them here to Long Beach. They typically meet at the White House with VP Harris as chair, and today we got to show them why our city is home to one of America’s fastest-growing space clusters. This is a big deal! Thank you to NSC UAG Executive Member Mandy Vaughn, Deputy Director of the Policy & Strategic Comms Division with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration SCaN Program James J. Miller, the Port of Long Beach, and the other partners for joining me this afternoon to talk Space Beach, STEM education, and more. And, special thanks to Dr. Sian Proctor—an astronaut and the first woman of color to pilot a spacecraft—for signing a copy of her coloring book for my daughters.
