  • Meet #Guidonnaire Melanie Starneri: Animal lover, music connoisseur, and architect extraordinaire. What's a fun fact about you that most of your colleagues might not know?  We love animals in our family. We’ve had birds, snakes, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, cats, and dogs. We had up to 13 pets at one time, but right now we only have four cats and two dogs. Every animal we’ve had (except for our first bird, Shadow), has been a rescue. What's your go-to productivity hack that helps you stay focused?  Music, loud and fast paced. I listen to all kinds of music. People might be surprised at my playlist. I have Elvis, the Stones, Aerosmith, Queen, The Fray, Lifehouse, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Tyler Farr, Elvis Costello, One Republic, Pink, Jonny Lang, Garth Brooks, Jon Pardi, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Pentatonix, Grace Bowers, Courtney Hadwin…you get the idea. Every time I hear a song I like, I add it to my list. I currently have 567 songs on it! What's your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?  Relaxing with my family and a glass of wine. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received, and how has it influenced you?  “Choose your battles.” This was especially helpful when raising a strong-willed, stubborn daughter! (I don’t have any idea where that came from! 😉) It also comes in handy in this business. I find myself asking if “it is really all that important” about a lot of things. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?  I’ve always wanted to go to Italy, and I married an Italian, so that’s definitely on our bucket list. I’ve wanted to see Venice since art school. Learning about Rome in architecture school made me want to see it as well. Learning about John’s heritage and where his parents were from has definitely made that area on the Aegean Sea a must.

  • ‘Tis the season! #Guidonnaires participated in the annual Helping Hands Tree Competition benefitting Riley Children's Health in Indianapolis 🎄 Presented by J+J Flooring, the event includes designers, architects and flooring specialists from across the country. Participants decorate holiday trees to brighten the season for a child in need. Trees are distributed to local children’s hospitals, enabling young patients to have a little holiday cheer in their hospital room. Since 2016, the effort has expanded to 13 hospitals!

  • Giving back to those in need is of the utmost importance at Guidon. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, team members attended the inaugural Partners In Housing Development Corporation Friendsgiving 🍁 The event, complete with an apple cider bar and s’mores, raised funds for those in our community experiencing housing instability. Partners in Housing connects individuals with permanent residence options while also providing resources to ensure they succeed.
