The Y. For a Better Us.
About us
Greater Somerset County YMCA is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose and each other. Guided by the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, we work today to build a better tomorrow. For a better us. Greater Somerset County YMCA employs more than 1,000 people and provides volunteer opportunities for more than 1,600 people through our branches, including: Bridgewater YMCA, Franklin Twp YMCA, Hillsborough YMCA, Plainfield YMCA, Somerset Hills YMCA, and Somerville YMCA. Every day, our staff — of all ages with diverse backgrounds and life experiences — work to bridge the gap in community needs. Our full and part-time employees enjoy competitive benefits and are offered opportunities for professional development as well as a rewarding, inclusive atmosphere. A free membership to the Y is included for all staff. Serving more than 30,000 members, Greater Somerset County YMCA is so much more than a fitness center. At the Y, our goal is to improve overall health and well-being, ignite youth empowerment, inspire action, and demonstrate the importance of connections in and across the communities we serve. The Y empowers everyone—no matter who they are or where they’re from—by ensuring access to resources, relationships and opportunities for all to learn, grow and thrive. Greater Somerset County YMCA is a drug free work environment. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information who share our values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

HAPPY KWANZAA! Created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, a professor of African Studies, to promote African American cultural unity and heritage, Kwanzaa was designed to be a week-long celebration that incorporates African traditions and values. The name “Kwanzaa” is derived from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits of the harvest.” #YForAll

In the true spirit of the holiday season, Greater Somerset County YMCA has once again brought joy to local families through its cherished tradition of Giving Trees. From November to early December, Hillsborough, Princeton, Somerset Hills, and Somerville YMCA branches host the Giving Tree gift drive. Each tree is adorned with ornaments listing a child’s name, age, and desired gift. Through the Giving Tree, Greater Somerset County YMCA demonstrates its unwavering commitment to supporting those in need and strengthening the bonds within its communities. Thanks to the generosity of The Westfield Foundation, more children in Plainfield have the opportunity to thrive in YMCA programs! The foundation’s ongoing support helps to ensure that assistance is available for childcare and summer camp. And it helps the Y to create spaces where neurodiverse children are included and supported. Together, we build brighter, more inclusive futures for all. #ForABetterUs
