  • Meet Kerri Lozinto, a proud member of the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians and a solar installation trainee with GRID North Coast. This summer, she helped bring renewable energy to her Tribe through a transformational project at Bi’du Khaale Elder Village. 💡 With support from the Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund (TSAF), 25 homes in this vital senior housing community received no-cost solar systems with battery storage. The result? Lower energy costs, reliable power during blackouts, and a step forward for energy sovereignty. 🌞 “This will definitely help people financially,” Kerri shared, “and the fact that it’s renewable energy is great for the environment. It benefits both our land and the earth.” 🌎 Since 2010, GRID’s Native-led Tribal Program has worked alongside Tribal Nations to build clean energy solutions that advance sovereignty and sustainability. Projects like this show the power of uplifting Indigenous voices and investing in energy resilience. ✨ This holiday season, join us in supporting a just transition for Tribal communities and beyond. 2024 Recap: Empowering Puerto Rico with Solar Energy! This year, we continue our commitment to Puerto Rico by providing clean, resilient energy to vulnerable communities! Here’s a quick look at what we accomplished together: - 3 Community Centers (Cubuy, Naguabo | Las 80, Salinas | Arenas, Guanica) In partnership with Canadian Solar Inc., Solar Technology, and CED Greentech Puerto Rico, we installed solar + energy storage systems at 3 community centers across the island. These centers can now serve as emergency shelters and community kitchens, staying powered during outages. Resilient energy = resilient communities! - COREFI (Vieques) We provided a solar + energy storage system to this essential organization providing food and care to the homeless and elderly in Vieques, ensuring support reaches the most vulnerable. - Workforce Development Pilot Program We partnered with GRID Alternatives to train the next generation of solar professionals! This pilot program taught Solar Installation Basics to create pathways for a greener workforce. None of this would be possible without YOU. Our supporters and partners are driving real change—and we’re just getting started. Let’s keep the momentum going! • GRID Alternatives is proudly celebrating our 20th year of building community-powered solutions to advance economic and environmental justice through renewable energy, and our work is made possible with partners like LinkedIn! ✨ Over the past twenty years, GRID has successfully implemented over 97 megawatts of solar projects for more than 32,700 income-qualified families across the nation. This means we have provided underserved families with an estimated total lifetime energy cost savings of $739 million since 2004. Additionally, GRID's workforce development programs have provided hands-on job training in clean energy technologies to over 33,900 individuals, with the aim of building diversity and inclusion in the industry. Today, GRID is a leading voice in low-income solar policy and the nation’s largest nonprofit solar installer. Our impact extends beyond borders, reaching families across the nation as well as Tribal communities and communities across Nepal, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. ⚡🌎 LinkedIn has been a supporter of our mission since 2016, providing our organization opportunities to grow our presence and expand our reach. LinkedIn has offered their employees the opportunity to participate in many Sponsored Workdays with GRID over the years, giving their employees the opportunity to experience solar installations on client homes and allowing them to directly contribute to building a cleaner and more resilient future. LinkedIn has also been a longstanding supporter of our workforce development initiatives, empowering job trainees with clean energy skills and providing valuable professional development opportunities. More recently, GRID was one of the recipients of a LinkedIn Ad Grant, promoting multiple campaigns that will support our mission-critical work. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we want to give a special shout-out to our partnership with LinkedIn as they continue to empower our positive impacts. Our vision of an equitable transition to clean energy that includes everyone is made possible by the continued support and collaboration with our partners and communities. We extend heartfelt gratitude to LinkedIn, and look forward to the future of our impactful partnership! 💚 #GreenerTogether

  • 🌞 Empowering Community Leaders Through Clean Energy 🌞 Meet Jeremy Price, a proud solar installation trainee with GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles. Jeremy’s connection to the San Fernando Community Health Center (SFCHC) runs deep—it’s where he grew up receiving care and support. “This community is my home—I grew up coming to this health center,” Jeremy shares. For nearly 100 years, SFCHC has been a beacon of strength in the San Fernando Valley, providing healthcare to over 8,000 patients annually. Committed to excellence and accessibility, SFCHC recently expanded its impact by embracing environmental sustainability. Earlier this year, with the help of GRID trainees like Jeremy, SFCHC installed a 247-panel solar system that now powers 60% of its energy needs, reduces costs, and cuts over 130 tons of carbon emissions annually. This milestone is a testament to the clinic’s leadership in creating a healthier and more sustainable future for the community. Jeremy’s story highlights the potential within us all to create positive change. Through GRID’s Installation Basics Training (IBT) program, he gained hands-on solar experience while contributing to his community’s growth and resilience. “I always knew I wanted to make a positive impact, but it wasn’t until I found GRID that I discovered how,” Jeremy reflects. For 20 years, GRID has partnered with communities to build a cleaner, brighter future—training leaders like Jeremy and advancing renewable energy for all. 💡 Be part of this movement. • Rosemary Murphy, now 86, loves to cook for her big family — a labor of love passed down onto the plates of her grandchildren. She has a list of favorite recipes that are like a love letter from her generation and her Mexican heritage. Family is everything to Rosemary, so when her two elderly sisters needed to move in, she welcomed them with open arms. It is only fitting that the house she's lived in for almost six decades in Chula Vista, California, has started to resemble a scene from The Golden Girls.    Access to reliable and affordable energy is essential for Rosemary and her sisters with their complex medical needs. Their mobility and abilities to go outside are limited in different ways. Indoor fans, space heaters, and other electronics allow them to live comfortable and healthy lives. However, like many seniors in the U.S living on fixed incomes from social security, a high energy bill can break the bank.   We are proud to say that in September of 2023, GRID San Diego was able to install solar panels at no-cost on Rosemary's home, to help drastically lower her energy bills and offer significant economic savings that can be allocated toward other medical expenses. Rosemary will save $2,500 on utilities in the first year and can expect to save more than $62,000 over the lifetime of the system.    “I am so grateful for the opportunity to save money while also helping the planet. At first I thought it was too good to be true, but I was happy it was the real deal. It’s actually free!”   #solar #solarenergy #renewables #renewableenergy #climate #climateaction #nonprofit #nonprofitsolar #energysector #freesolar #energysecurity #affordableenergysolutions

  • In November, GRID North Valley celebrated the graduation of the region's 6th Installation Basics Training (IBT200) cohort for the year! To mark the occasion, our wonderful North Valley trainers and staff hosted an event to celebrate the accomplishments and hard work of the solar trainees. Friends and families were invited to attend and cheer on our trainees as they received their IBT200, OSHA-10, and CPR/First Aid certificates amid a happy send-off from the staff who have taught and worked with them over the last several weeks. Also in attendance were several local employers, as our North Valley staff organized a mock-roof demo area for trainees who wanted to show off their new solar installation skills. It truly takes a great, committed group of individuals to make our IBT program possible. This program offers folx from all backgrounds and experiences the opportunity to pursue sustaining careers in the growing clean energy industry, and GRID is committed to making our job training opportunities accessible and inclusive of groups that have historically been excluded from accessing clean energy. If you or someone you know if interested in registering for a IBT training program at one of our regions, please visit our website for more info! A big thank you to SMUD for funding this year's program, GO-biz, as well as our sponsors Bank of America, Accenture, and U.S. Bank! #solar #solarjobs #solartraining #renewableenergy #greenjobs #solarinstaller #climatejobs #climateaction #climatechange

  • We're so proud of the work our Greater Los Angeles team is doing in Stockton through the California Strategic Growth Council's Transformative Climate Communities initiative!

View profile for Grant Kirkpatrick, graphic

Environmental & Sustainability Officer at City of Stockton

Last night, I had the privilege of updating the City Council on Stockton Rising, the City of Stockton, CA's flagship environmental and sustainability program. Made possible by the California Strategic Growth Council's Transformative Climate Communities Implementation Grant, this initiative aims to deliver transformative environmental, health, and economic benefits to Stockton's most disadvantaged communities—some of which rank in the 100th percentile for pollution burdened in California. Here are a few highlights of what we've achieved so far: - 52 single-family and 4 multi-family solar systems installed, generating 554kW of clean energy (with GRID Alternatives ) -1,400+ trees planted (in partnership with Little Manila Rising & Stockton Public Works) - 12,000+ Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) boxes distributed (through The Edible Schoolyard Project) - 380+ households equipped with energy- and water-efficient devices (via Rising Sun Center for Opportunity) - Countless community engagement events, surveys, and training sessions empowering local residents (Public Health Advocates, Little Manila Rising, and Catholic Charities Diocese of San Joaquin) Stockton Rising is the cornerstone of a larger strategy to reverse decades of pollution and build a vibrant, healthy future for our community. Upcoming initiatives include: - A Comprehensive Climate Action & Adaptation Plan (building on the City's 2014 Climate Action Plan) - The Van Buskirk Park Expansion project - The Stockton Youth Employment Summer Success (YESS) Program This incredible progress wouldn’t be possible without the exceptional efforts of our nonprofit partners mentioned above and the unwavering dedication of my amazing team at the City: Dale Applewhite, Shalilah Bess, Mandi Dumlao, Vanessa Munoz, and Oluchi N.. Hard to believe our team has secured over $58M in funding since I joined the City in 2019 -- Onward to 2025!
