Green Bellevue President Ruth Richter & board member Dr. Kerri Pillen attended the Altrusa International of Bellevue’s biannual fundraiser event pictured w/ NE district 45 state legislator candidate Sarah Centineo and Julie Miller. The team generated a spontaneous Zero Waste effort & collected all the composting & the plastic ware will see a new day via the city’s #orangebag program which takes hard to recycle plastic & transforms into plastic building materials such as lumber, decking, pallets. This made great effort to raise scholarship funds for non-traditional students even better. Way to go! #recycle #compost #doyourpart #scholarships #fundraising

Bellevue is proud to be the first Bee City USA certified in Nebraska - circa 2021 - Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. #WorldBeeDay2024 With over 4,000 species, North America's native bees are crucial to our ecosystems. Highlights include: - Bumblebees (Bombus): Known for their buzz, essential for pollinating tomatoes, peppers, and wildflowers. - Mason Bees (Osmia): Vital spring pollinators for fruit trees like apples and cherries. - Sweat Bees (Halictidae): Small but mighty, key in pollinating wildflowers and various crops. - Leafcutter Bees (Megachile): Use leaves to build nests and are crucial for pollinating wildflowers and alfalfa. - Squash Bees (Peponapis, Xenoglossa): Specialize in pollinating squash and pumpkin. These bees play essential roles in supporting both wild and cultivated plants. Protecting them helps sustain our food and ecosystems!
