  • 🌎 By providing an international “home” to mental health advocates, we are the only existing structure with the ability to facilitate ‘Global to Local implementation’ and ‘Local to Global influence’ in the global mental health sector with this level of reach across both HICs and LMICs.  Through the #Belongingness pillar in our NEW long-term strategy, we nurture community and provide a global "home" for mental health advocates and activists, often excluded from traditional power structures. Here's what that looked like in 2024 and find out how we are continuing to create spaces for local-to-global, and global-to-local advocacy in 2025! 🔸This year, our network has grown by 57%, from 3,510 members in January, to now over 5,500 members from 169 countries! Our advocacy work would be incomplete without the diverse and unique contributions of our members from all corners of the world. 🔸Our online community platform, Circle, set up exclusively for GMHAN members, has grown by 77% this year. Over the past 12 months, members have shared over 1,000+ posts on Circle, including 390+ posts sharing news about local, national & global initiatives and campaigns and the development of new tools & resources! 🔸The 3rd Global Mental Health Advocacy Forum took place in July this year and was attended by over 600 participants from 135 countries. This event was the largest and most inclusive convening of its kind! Over two days, we hosted 12 sessions - designed entirely by Working Group members and Co-Chairs - shared expert insights from 54 thought leaders representing 22 countries and hosted over 30 speed-networking sessions. 🔸To ensure the Advocacy Forum was as accessible as possible, we hosted the forum in 3 different timezones, produced transcripts in 6 languages for all sessions and offered data grants to members who may have been unable to join the event due to poor wifi connectivity. We welcomed activists, grassroots organisations, practitioners, researchers, UN agencies and donors to this event! 📢 Here's how you can get involved in 2025: 🔹 We will be hosting our 4th Global Mental Health Advocacy Forum in Iloilo City in the Philippines from 2-4th February 2026! It’s set to be our biggest, and most inclusive event yet - save the date now and stay tuned for exciting updates in the new year! 🔹We are fast approaching the 2,000-member milestone on Circle! Join the platform now to get a unique insight into the mental health sector and access an invaluable hub of advocates and experts from all continents. - Join our Network here: https://lnkd.in/ezKW-WkP - Learn more about our Advocacy Forums here: https://lnkd.in/gRvxPdeA - Learn more about GMHAN Circle here: https://lnkd.in/g96puvHi - Download our NEW Long-Term Strategy here: https://lnkd.in/dCJ2Emuq

  • 💡It is clear that strengthening and amplifying the voices of advocates is core to mental health improvement, leading to more appropriate services, campaigns and community programmes. Through our work under the #Advocacy pillar in our NEW long-term strategy, we enable advocates to influence key global structures and decisions and to advocate on a national and global stage for what matters locally. Here's what we got up to in 2024, and an insight into what we have planned for 2025 to support #MentalHealthAdvocacy at all levels! 🔸We launched the new Stigma and Discrimination and LGBTQI+ Working Groups. Stigma and Discrimination Working Group members from over 76 countries were invited to contribute to the WHO’s landmark Mosaic Toolkit to End Mental Health Stigma and Discrimination. 🔸Of the 31 countries represented within the LGBTQI+ Working Group membership, 11 countries currently criminalise LGBTQI+ people. This group provides a safe space for mental health advocates to share their experiences, voice and expertise so we can collectively advocate for meaningful change. 🔸The G20 Short-Term Action Group (STAG), steered and chaired by GMHAN members, developed a coordinated advocacy strategy for prioritising mental health investments in children, adolescents and youth in all policies. This led to the creation of the first-ever Children in G20 group, a new civil society influencing mechanism. 🔸The COP29 and COP30 STAG members have been collaborating on various activities including translating policy briefs on environment, climate change and mental health into local languages, working on commentaries and position papers, and supporting side events. 📢 Priorities for our Advocacy work in 2025 include... 🔹Influencing decisions & commitments at the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health 🔹 Enabling a significant mental health presence at environment and climate change conversations & commitments 🔹 Working with G20 Civil Society platforms with our local members and partners 🔹 Raising the profile of mental health, exchanging knowledge & expertise and co-producing advocacy resources through our Working Groups 🔹 Launching a NEW Working Group on the deinstitutionalisation of mental health care › Join our Working Groups: https://lnkd.in/eEgYACCj › Learn more about our STAGs: https://gmhan.org/stag › Access the WHO’s MOSAIC Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/ejr8kXwF › Download our new long-term Strategy: https://lnkd.in/dCJ2Emuq › Access our 2025 Advocacy Roadmap: https://lnkd.in/gY7uaSb3 #MHForAll #GlobalMentalHealth

  • 🌎 In this week’s member blog, Shoukat Ali Baloch shares his reflections from this year’s #COP held in Baku, Azerbaijan. While it was evident that mental health was a significant issue for delegates at the conference, the absence of dedicated spaces and forums to address the intersection of climate and mental health prevented meaningful progress from being made. Read the blog now to learn more about the commitments of emerging markets and developing countries (EMDCs), and the challenges that must be addressed to ensure mental health is acknowledged and made a priority at future convenings. 📃 https://lnkd.in/eVJPaa3y #mentalhealth #climatechange #cop29
