AmCham’s Thanksgiving Gala Raises Record Funds for Transformative Initiatives The Thanksgiving Gala Dinner, hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, brought together 422 guests, including U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier, former President Atifete Jahjaga, and Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama. Keynote remarks were delivered by Ambassador Hovenier, while President Vjosa Osmani addressed attendees through a video message, highlighting AmCham’s crucial role in driving impactful initiatives that benefit communities across Kosovo. This year’s Gala raised €82,480, marking a record amount in the history of AmCham’s fundraising efforts. Funds raised during the Gala will support transformative projects in 2025, such as STEM education for girls, scholarships for marginalized students, expanding rural school libraries to minority areas, mental health support for children and adolescents, and digital literacy programs for rural communities. These initiatives underscore AmCham’s dedication to fostering education, inclusion, and innovation throughout Kosovo. After a networking lunch and recharged batteries, energy remained high as our day in Prishtina continued with our host Mergim Cahani, co-founder and CEO of Gjirafa, Inc., leading a workshop on his founder’s perspective of the financing world. His story is synonymous with regional impact, as Gjirafa is one of the most successful tech startups in the Balkans. From the genesis of the Gjirafa idea, to his fundraising journey, mistakes he went through and lessons learned along the way, Mergim provided our entrepreneurs with invaluable insights and inspired another high-energy discussion from our cohort. Mergim emphasized throughout his workshop how relationship-building and a strong network are key for a successful startup, especially when fundraising. He even shared with everyone that if he starts a new company tomorrow, he would join Dare2Scale regardless of his experience - a real testament of our commitment to providing a valuable set of resources and perspectives to our participating founders.
