Incredible news today...
I have an important update on our fight to stop SIDS. First, two decades ago, we faced the unimaginable loss of our beloved son, Aaron Matthew, to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Seven years ago, a beacon of hope emerged with the establishment of the Aaron Matthew SIDS Research Foundation at Seattle Children’s. The foundation was created to foster a unique collaboration between the world’s leading SIDS researchers at Seattle Children’s and the world-class data scientists at Microsoft, armed with #AI, and all united by a common goal: to understand and eradicate SIDS. Today, I am overjoyed to share some groundbreaking news from Seattle Children's and Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab: their new research suggests that genetic testing at birth could identify infants at risk of SIDS and other sudden deaths, potentially saving countless lives. This study, supported by the The Aaron Matthew SIDS Research Guild of Seattle Children's Hospital, has discovered genetic markers associated with Sudden Unexplained Infant Deaths (SUID), including SIDS. These markers play a critical role in detecting low oxygen levels in tissues, which could explain the increased risk for infants sleeping face down. In addition, the research has identified genes linked to Sudden Cardiac Death, which could impact individuals later in life. This discovery paves the way for preventative treatments, and early interventions, in a cause of death that claims about 360,000 lives annually in the United States. This is important: we believe our research may not only be able to detect SIDS, and offer preventative treatments, but also Sudden Cardiac Deaths, a silent killer than impacts many people, well into adulthood. 👉 Today’s news: https://lnkd.in/gbVRVixV 👉Interview with Seattle ARC: https://lnkd.in/gSw-jsqT Please support this work.
