🌳 POV: You’re a Georgia Power Wildlife Biologist! 🐦⬛Meet Jim, a wildlife biologist with a passion for preserving Georgia’s natural habitats. Before joining Georgia Power, Jim worked with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Now, he works in the Environmental Affairs Department on rare species conservation in partnership with our Land Management team. 🌱 One species close to Jim’s heart is the red-cockaded woodpecker, which was recently downlisted from “endangered” to “threatened” by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. But as Jim says, “This is a big step—but there’s still a lot of work to do.” Georgia Power’s forestry team helped support this recovery by restoring the longleaf pine ecosystem- the habitat of the red cockaded woodpecker, gopher tortoises, and many other species. 🌲✨ Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eewcjcVy

Georgia Power Company reposted this
With the passing of President Jimmy Carter, the world has lost an incredible leader and philanthropist, and the state of Georgia has lost a truly irreplaceable person who is a part of our shared heritage and helped build the Georgia we know today. While we mourn the loss of President Carter, we also celebrate his long life of faith, his steadfast example of service and his tireless commitment to spreading peace and improving and uplifting the lives of people across the globe. Born in Plains, Georgia, 100 years ago, he served his state and nation at all levels - in the U.S. Navy, as a farmer and businessman, as a state legislator and governor, and as president of the United States. In each role, he brought a dedication to leading with kindness and thoughtfulness, and a unique ability to work through challenges and bring people together for the good of others. There are few more inspiring examples of devotion and true partnership than that between President Carter and his wife Rosalynn, with whom he founded the Carter Center, focusing on resolving conflict, promoting democracy, protecting human rights, and preventing disease at home and abroad. The Carters were also well known for their work with Habitat for Humanity in advancing the mission of that organization and building of thousands of homes for families over decades – including working alongside many Georgia Power volunteers in communities across our state. Whether on the world stage or quietly teaching Sunday School in his local church well into his 90s, President Carter displayed and lived out his strong sense of purpose and citizenship every single day and, while he will be sorely missed, his legacy of service will continue to inspire us and many others for generations. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Carter family during this time.

🎄⚡️Our lineworkers are spreading holiday cheer across the state! This December, our crews joined local parades, gift drives, and even teamed up with the Sandy Springs Fire Department and the City of Sandy Springs at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for an unforgettable event! 🎅🎁 This year our linemen went up in the bucket next to Santa to wave at the children at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital and then joined the fire crew in handing out gifts. It wasn't just the fire department and our crew- we were able to bring our mascot friends from the Braves, the Hawks, and the Falcons. 🎁🚒 For Apprentice Lineman Adam, this event hit close to home. Growing up in Sandy Springs and being a patient at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, he gained a new perspective on the magic of bringing smiles to kids in need. "We often see people when the lights are off, so this is special—to be here supporting the community and making a difference," he shared. Brandon, one of our linemen who participated in the Valdosta Holiday Parade, put it perfectly: "I'm so thankful to work with these people and show love to our citizens—even if it's just through waving, passing out candy, and saying 'Merry Christmas!' and 'Happy Holidays'.” We’re grateful for the chance to serve our community and spread holiday cheer! 💙🎄

Curious about what a Career Exposure Day at Georgia Power looks like? 🌟 Our team recently welcomed local schools to our Klondike Training Center to explore various career opportunities. 🏫 Students got hands-on experience with our line, network underground, and substation crews, learning about switching breakers, climbing poles, working on transformers, and what it’s like to be part of The Crew. 💪⚡️ Are you wanting a #CareerInEnergy? 🔌 Learn more about jobs, internships, and high school programs at poweringcareers.com 💼

You might not see us on your street—because we're working beneath it. 🚧⚡️ Our Network Underground team is on the job every day, making sure Georgians get clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy. So, what do they do? This crew goes underground into manholes and vaults to splice and replace cables, helping bring power to our commercial customers on the grid from the substations, and then to you. 💡🔌 #UndergroundHeros #MediumVoltage #CableSplicers

✨ 🎄 Spreading Holiday Cheer for Decades🎄✨ Meeting for the first time in 1962, the “Women of Georgia Power” was organized with the purpose of giving back to our community and embodying Georgia Power’s motto of being A Citizen Wherever We Serve 🤝. This spirit of volunteerism has been at the heart of their work, and the group has long supported local causes—such as their annual Christmas Doll Drive🎁 – shown in this archival photo from 1965. Today, the group is known as Citizens of Georgia Power, and they continue to carry out this legacy of service 🌟. Year-round, our Citizens groups dedicate their time to volunteering, donating gifts and groceries, and supporting those in need. In the spirit of the season, this year our Citizens went above and beyond, volunteering with the Empty Stocking Fund🎅 and gathering gifts for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree🎄🎁. We are honored to have the opportunity to spread Holiday Cheer across the state!

A live look 👀 From The Bucket ⚡️ Today our crews worked on grid projects and line work across the state. Pictured here, our Stonecrest crews are installing a Trip Saver and changed out a pole, our Atlanta crews are working in the buckets, and our Network Underground crews are putting in new cable. 🔋 We are proud to power Georgia!🔌⚡️

Members of our line teams joined hundreds of other workers and community members this week to honor the life of Eric Weems – a Griffin linemen who passed away tragically earlier this month. Being a part of the service was an important, and emotional, moment for our Jonesboro line crew- but they stated that “it was an honor to do what we could for him.” Georgia Power Lineman Jose noted that the experience reminded him that, “when we navigate through challenges, we want to make sure that we impact those around us in a positive manner.” While the crew member who passed was not a part of the Georgia Power crew, he was still a “brother in the industry” Jose said, making it an emotional moment that the crew was honored to be a part of. We asked Jose and his apprentice Frank how being a part of the service made them feel. They both stressed that this is a reminder to be “your brother’s keeper” and that “safety should never stop.” Frank, a UAL 2, noted that his training taught him to learn and follow the lead of his Journeymen crew leaders. He said, “When they work with safety first, I know that I am safe too since I am learning everything I can from them.” Our hearts, prayers, and thoughts, are with the family and friends of Eric Weems during this incredibly difficult time. And we also wish lineman Trent Granger a quick and full recovery.
