A huge Thank You to all who donated! An incredible $31,698 was also raised for the food pantry through Igloo Garden on the Green, a pop-up experience held in conjunction with the food drive. While some students enjoy much needed down time during their breaks, others make the most of their time off and go see the world! 📖✈️ Students will be leaving soon for winter break study abroad programs, and planning for spring sessions is happening now. If you or a student you know is considering studying abroad, let the experiences of our own Christina Custus, Manager – Employee Engagement, help convince you. 😉 Christina studied abroad in Costa Rica for three months as part of a program during her undergraduate years. She shares her memories of that transformative trip: ❤️ While I was there, I lived with a family. They were so warm and welcoming – they genuinely treated me like a daughter. We kept in close contact after my program was over (and still do almost 10 years later) – I even went back for their daughter’s wedding a few years ago! 🌊 I lived in the city during my program but loved being able to hop on a quick bus to the coastline and visit some of the most gorgeous beaches and volcanoes in the world. 😊 "Pura vida" is the Costa Rican slogan and general way of living, which translates to "pure" or "simple" life. It’s a perspective of life that conjures a carefree, laid back, optimistic, and happy spirit. It’s a general vibe that you can just feel when you’re there. Costa Rica also has a rich culture and emphasis on nature and biodiversity, so I really think the connection with and accessibility to such a robust landscape plays a big part in that. Christina credits her time in Costa Rica with not only helping her discover another culture but also learn more about herself: 🌍 My experience really gave me the confidence to expand my thinking and understand how big and diverse the world truly is. Also, it’s very easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life, so studying in a place where it’s literally a part of the culture to relax taught me how to slow down and enjoy life for what it is instead of rushing through it. And it all started with a two-month study abroad trip to Costa Rica when he was in college. Wes describes his time in Costa Rica as "the single most transformative experience of my life."
