  • Let's talk interview prep. One of the most overlooked yet crucial parts to the interview process. While an interview seems pretty basic ... there are certainly some best practices to follow and items to have prepared prior. Think about it ... how often do we actually interview? I like to remind my candidate that it's simply a conversation with a purpose ... you're interviewing them just as much as they're interviewing you. It's a two-way street. In preparing for the interview, I like to help my candidates stick to the basics and do them well: ✅ Do’s 1. Research the Company: Understand their mission, values, and recent projects. Show you’re genuinely interested in the role and how you can contribute to their goals. 2. Prepare Relevant Examples: Be ready with specific stories that showcase your skills, accomplishments, and how you handle challenges. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) for clear, impactful answers - the STAR method is fantastic interview hack. 3. Ask Thoughtful Questions: Demonstrate curiosity by asking about team dynamics, growth opportunities, or recent changes in the company. It shows you're engaged and proactive. 4. Practice Your Responses: Rehearse common questions out loud. This will help you sound confident and polished without seeming over-rehearsed. 5. Do dress for success; business attire, maintain eye contact, give a firm handshake. If over the phone, be in a quiet place and prepared for a call. Be no more than 10 minutes early to the face to face meeting. 6. Do take notes, ask questions and be an active listener. Bring at least 2 copies of your resume to the meeting with you. 7. Do express that you are interested in the position either during or at the end of the interview, if in fact you are. 8. Send an email thank you following the interview and be sure to express that you have interest in the position.   🚫 Don’ts 1. Don’t Speak Negatively About Past Employers: Keep it positive or neutral, focusing on what you learned and how you grew from past experiences. 2. Don’t Memorize a Script: Interviews should be conversational. Instead of memorizing, focus on understanding the main points you want to communicate. 3. Don’t Forget to Follow Up: Send a thank-you email within 24 hours. It’s a simple gesture that shows professionalism and appreciation (notice I have this one listed twice?). 4. Don’t Overlook Body Language: Make eye contact, sit up straight, and avoid crossing your arms. Non-verbal cues can make a big difference in how you’re perceived! Mastering these simple tips can help you walk into your interview feeling prepared, confident, and ready to make a great impression.
