The 2024 Houston Stand Down was a great success and an inspiring event for everyone involved. Stand Downs are community-driven efforts that provide essential services to homeless veterans, veterans, and their families. These services include food, clothing, health screenings, and referrals for housing, employment, mental health care, women's services, and more. On Friday, October 18th, The Zone hosted the Houston Stand Down, where over 70 nonprofits and nearly 30 VA departments collaborated to deliver critical support. These services included housing assistance, medical and mental health screenings, legal aid, education, training, and help with VA claims and benefits. The event was a powerful example of Houston's strong veteran support community. A heartfelt THANK YOU goes to all the people who made this event possible, including Jamay Fishback-Schardien, Dr. Lashondra Jones, Emily Winfield, Reginald Parker Jr., John Smith, LaGaydra Lawrence Murphy, Timothy Stroud, Jay Coppock, Isaac J. Newberry, @Cornelius Blackshear, Edgar Vargas, David Lewis, Jo I. and many more. Special thanks also to Congressman Al Green, Peyton Archie from Congressman's Wesley F. Hunt’s office, and Mayor John Whitmire’s office for their unwavering support of our American heroes. The Texas Veterans Commission Employment Services team was well-represented by Amy Cramer, Shalean Williams, Chester Haymore, Joseph Sullivan, James Smith, Nisha Lazare, Dolores Mendiola, April Diggs, and Stevea Smith, who answered veterans' employment-related questions. TVC Health Care Advocates CaRhondalet Washington and Na'Tavia Naulings-Linton BHA, MHA were also present, serving veterans and providing essential health care guidance. Key service providers included the Texas Veterans Commission, Combined Arms, Texas Veterans Network Powered by Combined Arms, The Salvation Army, Camp SHiEld - After Military Service, PTSD Foundation Of America-Camp Hope, Career Gear Greater Houston, Dress for Success Houston, Texas Army National Guard, U&I, DAV (Disabled American Veterans), U.S.VETS Houston, Department of Texas VFW, Family Service Center | The Center for Mental Health & Wellbeing, Adaptive Construction Solutions, Veteran Faith Initiative, and Yellow Ribbon Fund. Together, we showed that by combining our efforts, we can uplift our military community. #VeteransSupport #HomelessVeterans #Community #CombinedWeThrive #MilitaryCommunity #ServiceAndSupport #VeteranAdvocacy #SupportOurTroops #VeteranServices #CommunitySupport #VeteransHelpingVeterans #EndVeteranHomelessness #MilitaryFamilies #MentalHealthMatters #VetCare #ServeThoseWhoServed #HomelessOutreach #WeStandWithVeterans #WomenVeterans

There have been so many amazing moments from United Way of Greater Houston's inaugural Coffee & Quality Fellows Program! 🎉 The Fellows Program is a community of practice dedicated to developing and strengthening data and evaluation practices within organizations to ensure sustainability and long-term impact. Today, we celebrated the culmination of the intensive portion of the program with a showcase event! It was inspiring to see the incredible progress the organizations have made and to hear their exciting plans for the future as they continue to grow in their data and evaluation journey. 🪴A huge thank you to all the organizations (American Leadership Forum - Houston/Gulf Coast Chapter, @Bridges 2 Empowerment, DACAMERA SOCIETY OF HOUSTON, Dar-us-Sakina, DePelchin Children's Center, Family Service Center | The Center for Mental Health & Wellbeing, Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative (HILSC), Houston: reVision, Mental Health America of Greater Houston, The Parent Teacher Collaborative, Young Women's Preparatory Network) for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to improving their practices. This is just the beginning of what they've planted and I can’t wait to see how these organizations grow in their ability to communicate their mission and demonstrate their impact! 🪴 💟Huge thank you to Ashley Tate for serving as an incredible co-facilitator by sharing her data magic with others. If you ever need to talk to someone about your struggles with dirty data, she's your data person! 👏Many thanks to all the data champions and cheerleaders who joined us at the Showcase today! #UWGHData #UWGH #DataforGood #CoffeeandQuality #DataDriven #CommunityOfPractice #Evaluation #Data #Sustainability #nonprofit
