There's a confrontational aspect to CRO - you're hired to find the bad stuff and come up with ideas for how to make it better. Moreover, you are usually reporting directly to the people who built it in the first place. How you deliver your findings and critique has massive impact on how it will be received and thus your entire collaboration with the client. In the beginning of my career, I was overly confident and cocky (hello Dunning–Kruger 👋). Moreover, I wasn't very diplomatic and didn't really take into consideration how it felt to be on the receiving and of my CRO-reviews; let me tell you, that's a really unfortunate combination and more often than not it leads to a bad consultant/client relationship. Over time, as I got smarter and built more empathy through experience, I also started focusing on how to best deliver my message in a kind yet direct manner. And it really helped me have much better relationships with clients and overall success as a CRO. In the latest episode of From A to B, I discussed this topic with Shiva Manjunath - check out this clip and get a few tips for how to present your findings and feedback to clients.

  • As easy as it is to dunk on shitty websites (especially if you're new to the company), resist the urge to do this (publicly.... privately, it's okay to complain about it to loved ones and in #CROTherapy) People like working with CROs who have empathy, and understand that while things may not be perfect, you are there to help. To foster. To create a culture of improvement, not just calling something someone worked REALLY hard on "ugly". #Experimentation #Optimization

I had a ton of fun with talking to Shiva Manjunath on the latest episode of From A to B! One of the many things we talked about was the importance of soft skills and emotional intelligence - topics that we rarely highlight in CRO / Growth / Experimentation. These are very important skills, not least when it comes to how we approach others who aren’t well-versed in all things optimization / experimentation. A little bit of diplomacy and empathy goes a long way if you want clients and coworkers to listen and hear what you're saying without getting angry or dismissive. • 👹👹👹👹 New Episode Alert!!! 👹👹👹👹 CROs are infallible. We believe data! We trust science over opinions! We are LITERALLY never wrong, right? Well, sometimes we may be right, but we can still be rude about it. 🫣 And no one wants to work with that one guy who, while they may be right, has to let everyone know how right they are EVERY. DAMN. TIME. I enlisted the help of Michael Aagaard, nicknamed "Shrek" (for very good reasons...) to explore how it is that some #CROs may actually be problematic. And how their own behavior may actually be the reason why CRO and experimentation isn't being adopted or used in an organization. 👇👇👇👇👇 https://lnkd.in/gBCaCGxy We got into: - Messaging and tone matters. You may be right, but HOW you say it may be the difference between "let's run that test" and "I fucking hate that idea" - You're in the wrong industry if you are "testing to be right" - Balancing "confidence" without being "arrogant" as a CRO This weeks "Shit You Need to Know" comes courtesy of Jason Haddock who gave a VERY interesting POV around layoffs and how that actually impacts CRO / Experimentation. Shiva Manjunath Shiva Manjunath is an Influencer

Host of the Experimentation Podcast 'From A to B,' and experimentation manager passionate about learning-focused experimentation.

Dunning Kruger is a problem in #CRO. In some cases, that's OK. Some junior CROs are still trying to learn more about CRO/Experimentation, the principles which work, etc. BUT... even with that being the case, it's NEVER ok to be rude in how you approach discussing CRO or talking down at others who aren't exactly in your mental model. Don't use CRO or tests as a way to cajole people into thinking how you think. We catch more bees with honey than a flamethrower. I discussed this with Shrek (Michael Aagaard) on the latest episode of From A to B. Full episode out TONIGHT y'all!!! #Experimentation #Optimization

  • No new episode this week (coming out next week with the homie Michael Aagaard ) BUT if you haven't caught this episode you're missing out. Strategic CRO drives results. Listen to the smart words Talia Wolf says 🤘

🐺 🐺 🐺 🐺 New Episode Alert!!! 🐺 🐺 🐺 🐺 Are you doing 'strategic #CRO' ? What the hell even is strategic CRO? And how do you get there? Well, Talia Wolf had a post previously that triggered this discussion, so I had her on to better flesh out this idea. If you want to learn how to get from tactical to strategic experimentation, this is a can't miss episode. 👇👇👇👇👇 https://lnkd.in/gYbDfCqg We got into: - What rituals define 'tactical' vs. 'strategic CRO - What is better to start with: qualitative or quantitative research? - Tips on breaking out of the 'tactical' hamster wheel to get you into strategic experimentation This weeks "Shit You Need to Know" was a conversation around carousels. Yup. Those things seemingly EVERYONE is saying "never do ever for any reason in your entire life?" Well, Shiva and Talia just disagree 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (some nuance is necessary!) #Experimentation #Optimization
