TRANSFORMING CHILDREN'S TRAUMA TO RESILIENCE THROUGH THE ARTS.
About us
Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona uses a wide variety of arts as therapeutic tools to help heal children. We are the only nonprofit organization in Maricopa County, indeed all of Arizona, delivering creative and therapeutic arts programs, at no charge to participants or partner social service agencies, ages 3 to 26 years. Through a unique combination of arts, a therapy-based curriculum and evidence-based mentoring, Free Arts staff and trained adult volunteer mentors help participants channel emotions, release trauma and express themselves creatively to build self-confidence and develop trusting relationships with adults. Each year, Free Arts and its dedicated volunteers serve more than 8,000 children at 120+ sites run by our network of 40+ agency partners. Since our inception, we have proudly served more than 165,000 participants in the state through our collaboration with partner agencies.

Our Canvas of the Heart podcast is back! Join Matt and Erina as they discuss the Free Arts Family Program, regulation, and co-regulation. Erina gives a brief overview of the history of the Family Program and how it has grown in the past three years and what a Family Empowerment Night looks like. We wanted to share this episode during the holiday season because it can often be a deregulating time for a lot of individuals. Matt and Erina share some amazing art-based examples about how to both regulate and co-regulate - perhaps you will learn some techniques you can try during the next few weeks. https://lnkd.in/gSyKAhRg

We currently have 10 Free Arts Days scheduled for December and January! Free Arts Days allow youth in our partner service agencies to practice self-expression with the support of volunteer mentors during one-day programs hosted in partnership with local arts and culture organizations. Supporting this program can help us purchase specialized supplies such as frames and ornaments which our participants lovingly make art with and will share with their friends and caregivers this holiday season. You can donate to support creativity here: https://lnkd.in/gHeEDkdt

Are you ready to dig into a new season of Canvas of the Heart? Season four kicks off with Matt and Beth discussing a key concept we teach our mentors during our volunteer training, treasure hunting. They explain what it means, offer some examples of what it looks like, and give listeners tools to try it out themselves. Treasure hunting boils down to the truth that any young person has the potential to be successful. Often all that is needed for that potential to be realized is recognition and encouragement from a safe individual. It is a skill anyone can use at home with their friends, family, and coworkers too!
