Ford employees, through the Ford Volunteer Corps, teamed up with Team Rubicon to help veterans in Asheville, North Carolina recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene. “Hearing their stories made us get up a little earlier and work a little harder the next morning,” says Kyle Green, Volunteer Specialist at Ford Philanthropy, who deployed with Team Rubicon last month. After catastrophic flooding hit the region in September, volunteers worked to restore living spaces for 167 veterans at the Veterans Restoration Quarters in Asheville. This Veterans Day, we’re honoring Ford and Ford Philanthropy’s century-long partnership with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), which began in 1922 when Henry Ford organized a cross-country caravan of Model T Fords to bring veterans to the DAV national convention. In August, we celebrated this legacy by providing a grant to support transportation for veterans to medical appointments. Over the years, Ford has donated hundreds of vehicles to DAV, helping provide nearly 20 million rides for veterans in need. We’ve also funded sports rehabilitation and scholarships for young volunteers who support veterans. Today and every day, we’re grateful for our nation’s veterans.
