Leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our community.
About us
For more than 40 years, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore has provided over 350 million meals to those in our community who face hunger. Through our programs, facilities, and large network of community partners, we “eliminate hunger” on a daily basis for many. However, we understand that our current work addresses hunger for individuals in the short term. It does not address the root causes which force individuals to return to a food pantry again and again. This understanding has led to the creation of a strategic plan aimed to move Hampton Roads closer to achieving the mission of eliminating hunger for those we serve—not only for the day, or for the week, but for a lifetime.

Our Harry the Happy Dragon plushie isn't just a toy – it's a commitment to community. For every plushie sold, $3 goes directly to local food banks, helping us nourish families during the most challenging times. We're proud to partner with Harris Teeter in spreading hope, one plushie at a time.

Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast Troop 396 had the perfect way to spread holiday cheer and the giving spirit! The troop held its 9th annual "Caroling for Cans" event, where they carol door-to-door and ask for food donations. In total, they provided the Foodbank with 463 meals! Thank you, scouts, for this incredible display of hard work and generosity!

Recently, the Foodbank received a donation from the Peripatetic Senior Golfers Association for the equivalent of 5,340 meals! Over the course of the year, these golfers challenge each other to "Closest to the Pin" games, where they see who can get their golf ball closest to the hole. The money collected to enter is then donated to the Foodbank, providing thousands of meals to our neighbors in need! Thanks, PSGA!

The Foodbank is pleased to announce that it has received a $5,000 grant from Southern Bank and Trust Company! These funds will support our Mobile Pantry program, helping us get more food to our neighbors struggling with food insecurity. Thank you, Southern Bank!

A huge thank you to Amazon for their generous gift of $10,000! Amazon employees can apply for a grant on behalf of a charity of their choice and Takiyah, a Foodbank volunteer and Amazon employee, chose to nominate the Foodbank! Thanks to her, her colleague, Hope, and the kindness of Amazon, we're now able to provide our neighbors with an additional 20,000 meals. Thanks, Amazon and Takiyah!
